I just watched a Skillshare series with a surface pattern designer and Affinity Designer was mentioned in the comments.

In what formats can the files be exported?

What colour models can I work in - CMYK, RGB?

I use Photoshop all the time but not Illustrator  - Am I going to have a steep learning curve (vector or otherwise  ;) )

Hi stickershock,

Welcome to Affinity Forums,

1. You can export files as PNG, JPEG, GIF, PDF, SVG, EPS, PSD and TIFF. Some of these formats (mostly PSD, SVG and PDF) still have some small issues but they are being worked out. If you find problems while exporting just make sure to report them. The developers are very responsive and will fix them as soon as they can.

2. RGB, Grey, CMYK and LAB

3. Affinity Designer is much more intuitive and user friendly than Illustrator. You will have to spend some time learning it, like any other software. But it's much more accessible than Illustrator.

An Affinity Designer trial should be availalable in 2/3 weeks, so you can always check it out for yourself.
