Hey Guys,

There is this Video that I watched where this person was showing a Trick (Actually a Gimmicky stunt I would say) to make your Photo have a kind of Halo Light coming out of the subject where in he used a Curves adjustment layers brighten it up by bringing up the curve and then inverted it and then used a gradient mask to make it look kind of emitting light from the behind of the subject all this was in Photoshop.

My question is how do you do it in Affinity Photo.

Here is the Video for your reference the trick he shows starts at 3:29

You can do in a similar manner, place between a background color rect and your main cutout subject another pixel gradient fill layer where you adjust color & trancparency nodes accordingly. - Though instead maybe even easier just place a spotlight inbetween the layers which you adjust accordingly. The later has a more photographic effect like often used in portrait photogtaphy when using back fillight. - A quick take here ...

☛ Affinity V2.3 apps ◆ MacOS Sonoma 14.2 ◆ iPad OS 17.2

Hey Hi ! It was late night when I saw your reply and I could not try it. So today when I am trying it one one of the Portrait from where I have isolated the background and placing the Lighting Filter as you have mentioned in your post. I get this Lighting Handle (Which you dont in your video) and when I place in between the New Fill Layer/Rectangle I dont get the same effect as you do ? where should I be placing it ? And why am I getting that Lighting handle ? Please check the attached screenshot?

Placement as I've shown, between the cutout portrait layer and the background rect. Though you've adjusted the lighting effect to be more a back top left spot light, instead of just a huger rounded point behing that guy (...you've used here instead a spot and no point light).

With a spot instead, in order to do so, drag the lighting handles accordingly (the top left orientation one to his nose or forehead) and size (distance slider or dragging wider/shorten the other handles etc.) too. Though for just a rounded sizable background light behind the person, a point light is all you need.

Note: that you can also use/setup multiple lighting sources here (aka several point lights, spotlights etc.) if you want or if needed.

Yes I figured out I was using Spot instead of Point. But if I wish to use Spot how do I then make the Lighting Handles Invisible after adjusting to my taste ?

Closing the lighting panel, selecting your subject layer etc. Just the common way, or do you mean something else here?
