outlining your designs/work

Hi I'm a beginner at using affinity designer, so I have so much to learn; with that being said, I am in need of assistance. Since last night and today I been trying to outline my design but every time I try to do it, it outlines into a rectangle instead of matching my drawing.  It works fine when it comes to the assets as seen in the attachment, but when it comes to my drawing it comes out rectangular; not outlining the drawing itself as you see on the left side. 

FYI: the drawing is covered with the circle, and is not the drawing itself..

Is the object, which is to get the outline, cut out?.
