Hello, I purchased affinity photo for iPad a few weeks ago.  I’m very new to design software so I’ve been watching a lot of videos.  I watched This one a few days ago:

I’m Desperately trying to figure out how to make lines that come to points like he does ~2:30, but there’s no pencil tool in my Affinity photo.  He suggested I use the pen tool, selection persona, and stroke studio, but I can’t find the stroke studio either!  Please help!

Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums, @Tammy B..

You're watching a tutorial for Affinity Designer, but using Affinity Photo, a different application with different capabilities and functions.

Some functions are common to both, but some are different.

OMG!  THANK YOU!  I’ve been tearing my hair out trying to figure out what I was missing.  The video was under “affinity photo for iPad” and I didn’t even notice it was the wrong program.  Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!

I assume if I add designer to my programs, I can somehow combine documents in each program?  For example, if I create a vector in affinity designer, I can transfer it into affinity photo for a project I’m working on there?

Yes, the programs are fully compatible, and you can create a file in one, Save it, and Open it in the other.
