fleity Posted April 5, 2022 Posted April 5, 2022 (edited) Hi everyone I realized a somewhat weird workaround today which I wanted to share and ask why this works. I wanted to set the stroke of a path made with the pen tool (and an ellipse) to look like a brush. Easy in designer, create the path, select the brush, nice. But this does not work in Photo, BUT if you copy and paste that layer from designer back to photo it keeps the brush stroke settings?! The brush does not even need to be in photo. You can still change stroke width and color etc., just not the brush. After searching the forums I could not figure out any way to do this in photo (just some threads saying it isn't possible). Therefore I am wondering is this just a missing piece of UI if it's technically working? Or is there a expected way achieve this which I am not seeing? Copy in designer and then Edit > Paste Style in Photo works too in order to change the brush. (I am absolutely aware that vector stuff is not the intended purpose of photo but every once in a while it really helps to just draw a quick path right onto the image) Edited April 5, 2022 by fleity Quote
NotMyFault Posted April 5, 2022 Posted April 5, 2022 This is by design. All Affinity Apps can read any document of all other Apps, so they support all features of all Apps, but only for rendering / display / export, but not to create new elements on their own. This is part of the "studio link" functionality. In some cases, you can even use the UI to modify functions e.g. of Photo (filters) in Designer even Designer does not offer creating filter layers. Several users (including me) uploaded template documents or assets to use feature of non-installed Apps. It is a kind of grey area. There are other examples where the compatibility goes crazy. Some Publisher documents are capable to change the default text styles in Designer / Photo, and these apps have no UI way to reset / remove unwanted test styles.
