Many inline pinned photos cause app freeze while adjusting layout when adding more

I have a document with hundreds of inline pinned images. Whenever I add more of the same type of images and Publisher needs to reflow the text, Publisher will lock up for anywhere from 30 seconds to 10 minutes. The pinned images are roughly 0.24in x .21in. I have collected a spindump and samples while it is not responding.

Welcome to the forums

Please could you tell me the version number of Publisher and the operating system you are using? We'll likely need a copy of the file to investigate this further if possible could you upload the file along with one of the images you are adding to the below DropBox so I can try and recreate this here at my end? It may also be handy if you could provide any workflow steps you are performing when editing the text flow etc.

I'm using Publisher 1.10.5.

I'm on MacOS 12.3

I'm not sure I can upload the document as it has proprietary information in it. It's a technical document. It didn't start having issues until I got about 150 pages in. Now that I'm 250 pages in, it has gone beyond just the images and I can no longer use the application. It is constantly locking up for hours on end and using up to around 160GB of RAM for long periods of time before coming back down to closer to 20 GB of RAM. 

Is there something else I can do in lieu of sending you the 4MB document?

Added: I'll see if I can quickly recreate it with dummy text.

My Mac seems to beachball immediately on attempting to open this file let alone adding another image! I've left it for 10 mins or so and still can't interact with the file at all. Is this the behaviour you are seeing?

@Callum It started out as just being slow. It devolved into what you have after I kept moving my document over from Word. What I sent you page wise is about 2/5th of the full document I need to move over. It *should* respond after maybe an hour or two. Maybe.

I kept editing my actual document and it is now completely unusable. I let it sit over 10 hours before the system started quitting/pausing other applications before it finally threw up its hands and said it was out of memory. I can see if I can cut the document in ~half to give you something a little more useable.

...so went to remove some of the content and after I selected the text and hit delete it behaved the same way the actual document is now just opening it. Weird I could work with it very slowly before but now I can't. Either way I'm kind of stuck not being able to move forward with my conversion from Word. 😟

Hopefully you can figure out in the code why Publisher chokes on the document.
