I've created a global list and populated it to the two text boxes below. This list will flow through the document, but the locations of the numbers are flexible... they aren't necessarily one-per-page. Sometimes they are, and sometimes they skip a page.

What's the best way to set this up? In InDesign I created text boxes that were blank (with just a space) and a simple numbered list. Then I copy/pasted those text boxes throughout the document as I went, and the global list populated as I added boxes. Is there a better way to do this?

Also, ideally I want the ones on the right to be right-aligned. How would I do that? Thanks!

Choose the alignment option Away from Spine.

Lost me after global list.

Are you wanting to have section names and numbers? Can you not use the Field for Sections? You'll have to name each of them.

Wild guess here: There is a chance that what you are wanting could be done with Linked Text Frames and a Paragraph Style for the .... numbers (?) where each is a paragraph. Set the Flow Options for the Paragraph Style to start in next frame. If you want to skip a page click in the page and hit a return so there will be a blank / empty paragraph on that page.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

Thanks Bruce!

Away from Spine... perfect, I'll take a look at that.

Maybe I can explain better. These text boxes contain a global list that is continuous. When I duplicate a text box, regardless of where I place it, the numbers populate, like so:

And when I delete one of them, the later ones all re-number themselves.

This is exactly what I need to do on each spread. Sometimes it's two of these numbers per spread, sometimes it's one. I just need to be able to place them wherever I need.

I can't use sections, because I have something like 600+ numbers in some projects. And I am using sections for headers.

I am new to AP, but I will look into your last suggestion. Thanks!

Ok, I believe I got it!

I set the alignment to Away from Spine. That still didn't work, until I edited the Bullets and Numbering text to be just \#. Now it looks great. Thanks for your help!
