Adjustments outside of cropped selection

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have cropped and edited an image in the Photo persona, which I later preferred as a larger crop.  When I used the crop tool again to make the selection larger, my adjustments have not been applied to the area outside of the original crop, meaning there is a harsh line between my original edited section of the full image and the larger crop.  Any ideas how to fix/avoid this?

Thanks

Hi and welcome to the forum.

If you have not change the mask of the adjustment,

  • select the adjustment layer in the layer stack
  • use channels panel,
  • right-click on the adjustment channel alpha, and choose "fill"

Now the adjustment should be applied to the overall area.

In case you modified the mask of the adjustment (e.g. by erasing a part), and you want to fill only the outer part, thus preserving your edits of themask, a different approach is required:

  • select the adjustment layer in the layer stack
  • Use alt + click on the thumbnail of the layer
  • use a rectangular selection to mark the inner area
  • Invert the selection
  • use the fill tool, set tolerance to 100%, uncheck "continuous"
  • set fill color to pure white
  • click in the outer area
  • deselect
