Kurt Granroth Posted November 30, 2021 Posted November 30, 2021 I have a logo here originally created in Photoshop Elements and since re-created in Affinity Photo. In PS, this was done by creating a circle path that was slightly bigger than the saw-teeth on the blade. The GRANWORKS text is then placed on top of the circle with the spacing/tracking between the letters based on the bottom of the text. The WORKSHOP text is placed essentially "hanging" from the bottom of the circle and the spacing/tracking is now based on the top of the text, since that's what is following the path. When I tried this in AP, the GRANWORKS text worked like expected but the WORKSHOP was completely different. That is, I could either have the WORKSHOP text be upright on the inside of the circle path or I can still have it on the outside of the path but now the text is upside down. No matter what I did, AP kept insisting that the bottom of the text be touching the path and it would move or flip the text to ensure that. I worked around this by simply creating a much bigger circular path for the WORKSHOP and now it works to have the text on the inside of the circle. This works... but it's imprecise. First, the second circle size is more artistic than measured and second, the spacing/tracking between the letters is way off between the top and bottom text -- 200% for the top and 400% for the bottom. This is also more artistic than precise. Am I missing something? Is it possible to "hang" the WORKSHOP text off of the original circular path in AP like you can in PS? Quote

I am not a fan of how this works in AP but one way to do it is to select the "WORKSHOP" text with a text tool & set its baseline to !00%, sort of like in this hanging workshop text.afphoto example. Ah, excellent! I can absolutely use that. It looks like a tiny bit of imprecision is needed since a 100% baseline won't leave the tops of the caps on the curve, since the font has some space above caps (not sure what it's called) and so the baseline is pushed too low. However, it's easy enough to just tweak the position at that point to line up the tops of the fonts close enough for my needs. It does appear that AP will now set the spacing/tracking to the inside dimension, so I am able to use the same for both the top and bottom text. Very cool. Thank you! Quote
