Vitee Posted August 8, 2021 Posted August 8, 2021 Every time I attempt to process a set of image files for an HDR stack or any other type of stacking, including astro stacking, Affinity Photo crashes without warning or error messages. I am running Windows 7 on a desktop PC with 32MB RAM and a GeForce GTX 1660 Super video card. This issue has been occurring for the last 2 or 3 three versions. I am currently running version 1.10.0.1127. I'd be grateful for any any assistance. Quote
Dan C Posted August 10, 2021 Posted August 10, 2021 Hi @Vitee, Sorry to hear you're having trouble here! Can you please open Affinity Photo, then navigate to Edit > Preferences > Performance and provide a screenshot of your settings here for me? Many thanks in advance Quote

Dan C Posted August 10, 2021 Posted August 10, 2021 Many thanks for the screenshot provided! I would have thought this crash was caused by OpenCL Hardware Acceleration, however I can see that is already disabled on your device. Therefore it's likely your current GPU drivers causing this crash, so I'd like to remove all drivers you have installed currently and install a clean version of the latest driver directly from Nvidia. Please download the latest driver from the following link, and also download DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) - Nvidia Drivers - https://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx DDU - https://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html Please run DDU first to remove the current drivers you have installed, then install the latest drivers you've just downloaded and restart your system. Once restarted, try the stacking/merge operation once again - does this stop the app from crashing please? Vitee 1 Quote

Thanks Dan, The DDU uninstaller looks potentially quite dangerous; I really don't want to end up with a black screen. And now I have to replace a cooling fan on this PC. So I will try this fix in the next couple of days. BTW: I have had 3 video cards in this box over the last 12 months or so. One was a temporary replacement for the original card which burst into flames during a power supply replacement. And later I purchased the current unit. So I guess it's quite possible that the GPU drivers are causing the problem. Thanks again. Vitée Quote
Dan C Posted August 12, 2021 Posted August 12, 2021 I certainly understand your hesitation here, if you don't wish to use DDU then when installing the NVIDIA drivers, you will have the option to perform a 'Custom' installation - please select this custom option when installing the driver and here you will be offered to 'perform a clean installation'. Selecting this option will mean the Nvidia installer removes your old drivers, before installing the latest. Please do let me know how you get on here Vitee 1 Quote

I did a full re-install of the NVIDIA drivers - with the 'Perform a clean installation' check box ticked, and it appears to have solved the crashing issue. I tried some HDR work on a number of Tiff file sets and Affinity Photo hasn't crashed so far. So hopefully the problem has been resolved. Much happier now. Thanks for all your help, Cheers, Vitée Dan C 1 Quote
