Some of the scans of my drawings are on vellum which leaves a very messy background. I need to use the Erase White Paper filter to export a transparent png. What would be the best way to clean up the background?

And then does the adjustment layer need to be merged before exporting?

OK, I just tried Curves, Levels, Flatten, Erase White Paper works well. So is it so that I need to flatten first?

Welcome to the forums Darthe!

Glad to hear you've found a solution to your issue. Adjustment layers are non destructive and using them won't make any permanent changes to the original image. So using the Erase White Background filter will not take into account any adjustment layers.

Flattening your document will cause any adjustment layers to make permanent changes to the image and the Erase White Background filter to work with these new changes.
