Affinity Photo high RAM usage when editing RAW

Recommended Posts

Hi,

After the last update (1.9.2.1035) Affinity Photo started to crash when editing RAW-files, if I open more than a couple photo simultaenously image corruption on menus and photo being edited occurs and Affinity Photo slows down, locks up and crashes.
I didn't notice this issue previously.

I narrowed down the problem by opening up 10 photos and starting to edit, RAM usage skyrockets to nearly 20GB (32GB in my machine), limit set to about 22GB from Affinity Photo.

Nikon D3300 isn't a high resolution DSLR, only 24MP so high RAM usage is weird behavior in my opinion.

Windows 10 20H2, AMD Ryzen 5 3600X, Geforce RTX 2080 Ti, 32GB RAM, 160GB SSD space available in the drive that I use to store RAW-files.

Hi @Faravid,

Welcome to the Affinity Forums :)

Sorry to see you're having trouble here! From your screenshot provided this would appear to be an issue with OpenCL Hardware Acceleration, which may also be increasing the apps RAM usage if the app is struggling to correctly communicate with your driver.

OpenCL Hardware Acceleration has been recently implemented into Affinity for Windows, which utilises your Graphics Card to help render the document.
A few users are experiencing issues with this enabled, the number one cause of which is outdated or corrupted Graphics Card drivers.
Please visit the manufactures link below to download the latest driver available -

- Nvidia: https://www.geforce.com/drivers

Note: you may need to go direct to your PC manufactures website for the driver, if you see a warning regarding 'OEM drivers' when trying to install one from the above sites.

Once downloaded and installed, please restart your computer and then launch the Affinity app again.

Are you now able to load your RAW files without seeing this corruption on screen?

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

Thank you for the reply.

I keep my drivers updated with GeForce Experience.

I will try doing a graphics driver wipe with DDU, reinstall fresh and report results here.
