Bob Eason
Hello. I'm new to AP and am presently trialing it. My query relates to coloring solar images (solar disc, limb, prominences etc), where the image was made in monochrome without color filters and the TIFF file has been derived from a stacked AVI. Having opened the TIFF file in AP I want to color only the solar disc in a "sun" color, and maybe pick out features in an enhanced version of that color, whilst keeping the sky background black. Nothing I've tried so far achieves that and although I've looked at your tutorial videos for sampling and selecting colors they seem to relate to color image manipulation rather than coloring mono. Help here would be much appreciated.
John Rostron
Hello @Bob Eason and welcome to the forums. First, could I suggest that you change your post Title to something meaningful, such as "Colouring the sun". Many new users get confused by this "Title" label. For your image, try adding a fill layer (Layer > New fill layer) with a suitable yellow colour. This will be placed over your image. Then try changing the blend mode to Darken. Or you could try another blend mode, or swap the position of the layers. I am assuming here that your image is in RGB, not greyscale. Bob Eason
Thanks, John. My TIFF is in greyscale - as I mentioned in my post the AVI was taken without RGB filters. Bob
John Rostron
You will need to convert your image to RGB. See here for how to do that.
