Export to pdf - "scale with object"and group not locked

Recommended Posts

Hi there

I have made a logo design with different stroke widths. I have grouped the layers and locked (checked) the "scale with object" box and saved the file.

Then I have exported this logo to pdf. When opening this pdf in Affinity Designer, the layers are suddenly ungrouped and the "scale with object" box is suddenly unchecked and when down or up scaling the logo, the strokes are not scaled equally (the logo strokes are suddenly not locked).

How do I export to pdf and keep the locked strokes and grouped logo fixed? This is important as the logo is to be used by a Chinese production factory, and I don't want to risk any mistakes with the logo.

Thanks in advance.

René

Welcome to the Affinity forums @Rene Q!

"Scale with object" and the groups you made are part of the ADesigner functionality and not part of any PDF specification (I know of). If the logo isn't made editable by the Chinese factory nothing unusual will happen with your logo.

Hi Joachim

Sorry for my late reply @Joachim_L

So what you are saying is that when I export to a pdf file, all will be locked and not editable? I am confused then, because when I open the saved pdf in ADesigner, then nothing is locked or fixed and when I down or up size the logo, then the layers and strokes are not locked.

The thing is that I just want to make sure that my logo cannot be edited (other than scaled) by the factory.

I just said, that "Scale with Object" and "Group" are not part of any PDF specification and by no means preserved inside the PDF. Means if you made a line "Scale with Object" and you export to PDF, THIS information is not preserved. It is simply a line, that can be of course edited if not sealed with a security setting. And I am not sure (I have an older Acrobat version) if you can apply a security setting to allow only scaling. To make it harder to "edit" anything you have to export as a raster file. Apart from that, I have no other proposal for you, sorry.
