Sirs

I'm on Affinity Photo ver 1.8.6 and similar generation versions for Designer and Publisher on a Mac.  I purchased these directly from you and not from the App Store.

I got an email from you today saying I could upgrade to version 1.9 for free.  However, I don't see a way to do that within the application.  I would have expected to see some sort of command in the drop down menu of the software to allow me to "Check for Updates" or similar command.  I'm not seeing this.

If I'm missing where this is, please let me know.  Alternatively, please let me know how to do the update if this is not the right procedure.

Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums. :)

The email address associated with your account shows Affinity Publisher for Mac. Perhaps Designer and Phot were bought under a different email address.

The Affinity Store software check for updates each and every time it restarts, so if yours is not prompting that would suggest that it is a Mac App Store purchase. (Also there is an option check for updates in the application main menu for the Affinity Store version that is not there for the Mac App Store version, as they handle all the updates themselves)

I suggest you read the last paragraph of this Photo mac 1.9.0 announcement post and if you think it might be from the Mac App Store after all, check in there for the update It does take a while to roll out worldwide.
