The best I can get with effects such as Outer or Inner Shadow is a coloured boarder around the inside of the image, it doesn't apply to the subjects in the image as envisaged and in help. GarryP Posted January 15, 2021 Share Posted January 15, 2021 It sounds like you could be applying an Effect to an image that you have opened, rather than to an image that was placed in an already-opened document. In this case, if Clip to Canvas (menu “View → View Mode → Clip to Canvas”) is switched ON then any Effect that affects the outside of the image – i.e. outside of the canvas – will not be seen. Try setting Clip to Canvas OFF and see if that makes a difference. If it doesn’t make a difference then please give us a full-screen screen-shot showing your entire document with affected layer selected in the Layers Panel and the Effects dialog open showing the Effect you are trying to apply (like my attached image).
