a deisgner question: why does my layer effect in this example won't color the line?

hello everyone!

i'm trying this tuturial and when i'm creating the first guide line (with the pen tool) and applying a color overlay effect to the layer, the line isn't appearing. it only appears when selecting it with the node tool.

i've tried to follow this guide line part twice. but the result is the same: no color.

do you know how to fix it?

Make sure the line layer is selected in the layers panel & also that you applied a stroke with some thickness (in pt) to that line at all. - Then try to add an effect to the selection.

thank you. the reason i didn't thought it is the problem is because the with shows no stroke in the color panel.
