I've been using Affinity Photo for some years. I recently purchased a copy of Designer from the Affinity website. Trying to open it for the first time, OS Big Sur informs me that it is from an unidentified designer, can't be verified free of malware, won't open it, and wants me to trash it. I'd be grateful to know how to proceed.

Hi, which version number of Designer do you have installed? - For Big Sur you would need Affinity Designer v1.8.6, which you can download or get an update for from the Serif Affinity Website then!

☛ Affinity Designer 1.10.8 ◆ Affinity Photo 1.10.8 ◆ Affinity Publisher 1.10.8 ◆ OSX El Capitan
☛ Affinity V2.3 apps ◆ MacOS Sonoma 14.2 ◆ iPad OS 17.2

Then it might be some Affinity and Big Sur related problem, both actually aren't playing that well together (have bugs). - You can try to delete/uninstall the so far installed AD v1.8.6 and afterwards to reinstall it completely freshly new, in order to see if it then still behaves the same way or not.

I had this problem today. In my caso what happened was, that I had the app in a external hard drive, and for some reason the App Store app was not recognizing it (today we have the option to really install directly App Store apps on external hard drives, but was not my case since I had downloaded a few months ago).

When I installed the app from my Mac directly the files opened with no problem. (I think this can happen if we use the Affinty Version out of the Apple Store too).

Hope this help someone.
