How to crop a layer within an Affinity Photo file?

I repeatedly need to crop a layer (which is generally an image itself) within an Affinity Photo file. I see the Crop tool, but it crops the enter image. I would like to crop just an image which occupies a layer within the file. Is it possible to do that and how ? It would be most helpful.

In Affinity Photo you can crop a layer by masking it with a rectangle of the desired size.

Any specific guide for photographers (like working on basic things such as: white balance, light, saturation, etc.) ?
