bhpenfold Posted September 19, 2020 Posted September 19, 2020 Just tried to open some some CRAW files from my Canon 1DXiii in Affinity Photo Version 1.8.5.703 and it says that they are unsupported. I can open regualr RAW files but not CRAW. Can anyone advise when CRAW will be supported? Many thanks Quote
Staff stokerg Posted September 20, 2020 Staff Posted September 20, 2020 Hi @bhpenfold and Welcome to the Forums, Which operating system are you running Affinity? The Canon 1DX iii is on the supported RAW list here so it should work. Also have you tried opening the file from a local location, as from the path showing that looks like the file is on a Cloud drive, try moving one to your Desktop and see if you get the same error. Any chance you could attach a sample RAW file? Just i'm struggling to find one online to test this myself. Quote
bhpenfold Posted September 20, 2020 Author Posted September 20, 2020 Thanks for getting back to me. Dragged this file onto the desktop and it still won't open. Running Windows 10 fully updated. File opens in PS, LR and Fastsone Image Viewer but not AP. If I change the file format on the Camera to RAW, its fine, but change to CRAW, this is what I get. Camera is 1Dx iii runing Firmware Version 1.2.0 - 18 August 2020 Many thanks CD5I0016.CR3 Quote
Staff stokerg Posted September 20, 2020 Staff Posted September 20, 2020 Hi bhpenfold, Thanks for the RAW file. From looking into this further i can see that CRAW is a compressed RAW format and that will likely be why it's not opening. If anything we need to add a * by that camera on our RAW list and state its the uncompressed RAW file that we can open and not the CRAW file. I see PS can open it and have to say what a great photo it is Hopefully we can improve the RAW engine we use, to open CRAW files but it might take some time before that happens. Quote

Canon is implementing CRAW on all of its EOS R and newer cameras. 40% space saving in on-camera memory is huge; the EOS R5 with a 45MP sensor for instance is 22.3MB for CRAW and 46.5 for RAW, with virtually no loss of image quality. Support for CRAW by AP would be a huge step forward. It's a pain to have to do all my RAW processing in PS, then flip to AP for Jpeg processing... Quote
Lucian Parshall Posted October 29, 2020 Posted October 29, 2020 My preference on the Canon R5 is the CR3 format. Has Affinity given any indication when it will support CR3 files? Quote
