Affinity Designer on Mac does not save after update (file location window does not appear)

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

We have just updated Affinity Designer on Mac after a prompt on loading the software, the version number is now at 1.8.3 and we are running Catalina 10.15.6, we have been working on some artwork and attempted to save using File > Save but nothing happens. The same when trying to export after selecting the file format. It appears it's not showing the file window to select the save location.

Therefore we have no way to save the artwork currently on the screen, firstly how can we get save working again, and secondly is there anyway to keep a copy of our artwork currently on screen in an Affinity Designer editable format without using save? We can export to Affinity Photo (which appears to be on 1.8.3 too although we didn't run the update there), this loads the artwork and the save function works but unsure if this will be as editable as if it was saved in Affinity Designer?

Thanks,

If you have used a second monitor with your Mac it is possible the save window is appearing on it even if it is not currently attached or powered up. The simplest way to fix that is to reattach & power up the second monitor & drag the window back onto the main monitor.

BTW, the current Mac versions are at 1.8.4 so you are one update behind.

Not using a second monitor. Anyway even after I run the update and it claimed to have installed I noticed the version number was still the old version. So I took the hit on losing my work and closed the program, I then upgraded and the save window now works fine - no idea what went on with the initial upgrade, but working now.
