Page numbering in index

I have set up a book which has sections and an index. The index takes the page number from the 'actual' number of the page (counting from the beginning), not the page number assigned through starting the contents on page 1. The book has a preface i-viii, then the contents start on page 9, but actually numbered page 1. Numbering has been done using # in the master pages.

Is there a way to correct this so that the index picks up the page numbers that will be printed in the book?  thanks.

Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums.

It works properly for me without doing anything special. I setup a 6-page document with the first section occupying pages i, ii, and iii. Then the second section is physical pages 3-6, but numbered 1-3 in the Section Manager, and the Index properly uses i, ii, iii, 1, 2, and 3.

Can you give us some screenshots, especially of the Section Manager, for your document? Or, a sample document exhibitig the problem would be even better.

Thank you so much for getting back so quickly. Problem solved. I hadn't realised that what I see on the black Index panel is not what I actually see in the index. It works - thank you again.
