S.Capri Posted June 2, 2020 Posted June 2, 2020 (edited) I'd like to use our company logo in the Affinity suite. I did a drag and drop of our company logo (.ai file) from Finder to Designer, and I get a message that fonts weren't found and lets me substitute On this same computer, this same .ai file is displayed correctly in Word and Powerpoint doing the same drag and drop, so there shouldn't be any fonts missing. Our logo was designed by a 3rd party, and I don't have any info about it other than it is a .ai file (and I don't have Adobe InDesign). The font directory on my Mac doesn't have any font names similar to what Designer says is missing (EthnocentricBk, EthnocentricEL, EthnocentricRg), but since Word and Powerpoint aren't complaining, I'm not understanding why Designer is (and I double checked in Word and Powerpoint's pull down font menus - there are no fonts that have any similar names to Ethnocentric) I've attached 2 screenshots - 1 showing Designer's message and incorrect thumbnail of our logo. The 2nd screenshot shows what the logo looks like in Powerpoint (displayed correctly). I'd be glad to send the actual files in via email, if that would help. (Affinity Designer 1.8.3 Mac OS 10.13.6) Thanks! Sandra Edited June 2, 2020 by S.Capri Forgot to put version numbers in description Quote
SPaceBar Posted June 3, 2020 Posted June 3, 2020 Hi @S.Capri Welcome to the forums. I have created a link to our Internal Dropbox account for you to upload your files:https://www.dropbox.com/request/vc6mREfBrk7EwGuB51iB Let me know when they are there and I will take a look for you: Thanks Quote
S.Capri Posted June 4, 2020 Author Posted June 4, 2020 Nice setup with dropbox - nice that it's not open to the general public - thank you! I uploaded the .ai file - Thank you! Quote
SPaceBar Posted June 4, 2020 Posted June 4, 2020 Hi @S.Capri Thanks for uploading the file Sandra, you're welcome. I have managed to recreate your issue. When an AI file is saved it is saved with two streams of data: Illustrator native stream and also a PDF stream. As we cannot read the illustrator native stream we have to read the PDF stream. However the PDF stream has an embedded subset of the fonts, and right now we don't have the ability to load embedded fonts. However this is something we would like to look at in the future. Depending on your needs and if you don't need an editable file - a hi-res png file can work well instead. The .ai file would need to be opened in Adobe Illustrator and exported as a hi-res png. Quote
S.Capri Posted June 4, 2020 Author Posted June 4, 2020 Hi @SPaceBar, Thanks for looking at this. I kind of thought that the fonts would be embedded in the ai file. I'm glad that is a feature you guys are looking to add in the future - that would be very cool! We actually do have png files that were provided - it's just really nice to be able to rescale our logo (and a vector file is fairly necessary). Since I don't have Adobe Illustrator, I'll be doing that in Word or Powerpoint for now (hmm, Mac Preview lets me view it I'm looking forward to the new feature someday! I'm fairly new to the Affinity Suite - but it's the best package I've seen in a long time. I have been looking for a Framemaker replacement since it was taken away from my Mac platform (It always seemed to match my mental paradigm for documents, especially technical documents) - and Affinity Publisher seems like it's getting pretty close for me. If you guys ever do a Visio replacement (or a technical plugin for Designer) - I'd be alpha and beta test for you! 🙂 Thanks again for looking at the problem! Quote
