How to Edit/View Mask affecting Group?

Recommended Posts

I'm having trouble editing masks.
FIRST:
In the following example, how to edit with levels the layer mask from the group?

EditMaskLevels.jpg.0db8513fab10933d7b6cb39f552ea1b4.jpg

I know that I have to select Alpha to affect the mask, but I don't know where to put the levels adjustment so it affects only the group mask.
I have tried different positions but with no luck.

SECOND:
I can view the mask by pressing the ALT key. But when I open levels (Ctrl+L) the mask disappears.
So, how to edit a mask with levels while viewing the mask?

Thanks in advance.

Try this:
* Release the Mask (Layers Panel, right-click the mask layer, choose Release Mask);
* Add a Levels Adjustment;
* Apply the adjustment layer to the mask layer (if not automatically done);
* Apply the mask layer to the image;
* In the Levels Adjustment, select the Alpha channel and change the settings.
See attached video.
Does this do what you want?

Thank you GarryP!
"Release Mask" changes everything.

Releasing the mask attached to the Group and treating it just if it was a layer makes it possible to ajust using levels and only afect that mask.

This is what i was trying to do (left) and, on the right, what i should have done.
