Usually, when an instance of a Symbol is added to a document, the instance has unlinked transform/constraints and duplicates of it will have similarly unlinked transform/constraints. The effect is that instances can be independently moved, rotated or otherwise transformed without needing to be temporarily unsynchronised.

However, when an instance is added to a Master Page that is assigned to at least one Page, the instance has linked transform/constraints, with the result that a subsequent duplicate (by opt-drag, for example) of that instance occupies the same 2D space and they transform together unless temporarily unsynchronised to unlink their transform/constraints.
