yellowtonkatoy Posted March 7, 2020 Posted March 7, 2020 I’m trying to figure out which app to purchase, Affinity Photo or Affinity Designer to most easily accomplish the following workflow for comic book drawing & traditional Inking work: After scanning penciled artwork, I want to use the app to turn the greyscale penciled line work into non-photo blue lines in order to print out and ink over using traditional pen and ink techniques. In other words, I need to import a scanned greyscale image and turn the line work into non-photo blue lines ONLY (not the background, which must remain white). Quote
firstdefence Posted March 7, 2020 Posted March 7, 2020 Welcome to the forum yellowtonkatoy, Download the trials for each app and you can use them with full functionality for 10 days from first launch. I would install one first and then after you have got an idea of how the app performs install the second: https://affinity.serif.com/en-gb/ Affinity Designer is focused on Vector graphics, so in the context of drawing, that is a raster brush on a vector curve, these curves can be adjusted easily to get the position you want, it can also do raster brushes in what is called pixel persona. Affinity Photo is focused on photo editing and raster brushes, in order to edit those you would need to keep undoing a line until you were happy with it's look and location. yellowtonkatoy Posted March 7, 2020 Author Posted March 7, 2020 Thanks, firstdefense, but your reply did not address my question at all. Quote
firstdefence Posted March 7, 2020 Posted March 7, 2020 No probs, but downloading the trials would give you a taste of the apps capabilities and only you can know whether app is suitable. I would hazard a guess that within a few hours of using the apps you could make an educated assessment and find the app that suits your workflow best. If I used Affinity for inking I'd go for Affinity Designer because of the edibility of the lines. Are you wanting vector output or is raster/pixel based images your intended goal? yellowtonkatoy Posted March 8, 2020 Author Posted March 8, 2020 Thanks. Raster/pixel output is what I need in this case as it’s to print on paper to ink over. Unfortunately, I have no time to fiddle around with the trial versions, so I ended up purchasing Clip Studio as it has a built-in option for turning black/grey line work into blur lines with a single click.
