I have actual text on a path. I have eliminated the stroke on the line before. . I am sure I will forget again but thanks so much for this.  
They need a way to add notes to the help file for us forgetful people 

If you actually had "text on a path" the answer would be to open the Text Frame panel and turn off the stroke there.
But you don't. You have text-shaped curves on a path, which eliminates that possibility. So you need to use an alternate answer, such as one of the ones above.

I would like to make a suggestion of something I would find useful and others may too.  I realize that designer is geared to creating pictures and art but often I am making an actual 'design' of a item where I need dimensions added.   So I was wondering if any though was or could be given to adding a dimension tool that scales so I can make a 1 inch square and set the scale to 1 inch = 1 ft - take a dimension tool and pick two nodes and the drafting lines would be drawn and text showing the length using the scale would appear.

Thanks you are totally correct.  Not sure how to delete this but it can be deleted as it was a user adjustment that was needed not  a program adjustment.  Thanks for your response Walt this is something I would  not have easily figured out.

Looks like a paragraph decoration. That could come from the settings in the Text Style, or from the Character Paragraph Panel.
