  1. Hi stokerg, Thanks for getting back to me. I am using Win11. Attached there are two old and two new example. I just noticed that the old ones (alligator) are much bigger than the new ones (tiger). Could it be the new ones have no layers...? alligator.ai alligator.psd tiger.ai tiger.psd
  2. Hi, There a graphic designer who has created many illustrations for me. I received five different files every time, among them ai and psd. When I needed to delete a background I opened either the ai or the psd file in either Affinity Photo or Affinity Designer, deleted the layer and saved the files. It took only seconds and I had not given it much thought up to now. Today is the first time, that I need to do exactly that since I installed the versions 2, and I cannot get this simple thing done. Neither Affinity Designer nor Photo show all layers and it is impossible to delete any of them. Just all or nothing. I could use the clipping tool, but to be honest I don't feel like it, it's a lot more work and I wonder if the simple solution can be found anywhere else than the layers menu.
  3. Thanks for the advice. This is an example of how to make easy things difficult and time-consuming. By the way, haven't found a solution to my problem yet, someone posted the directory where affinity software should be intalled, but no, not on my computer. Received a message from a forum administrator I should read the FAQs, which I did before I posted my question here - but I admit not every single post, I just quit reading after an hour. It took me 5 seconds to add Affinity Photo 1 to XNView. After one hour of searching for a solution I still have not linked AF to XN. I guess I rather check the photos in XNView, then open AP and search the directory of the image from there, far easier and faster than this.
  4. This used to be easy: I am used to use XNView as image viewer. From there I could right click an image and choose from a couple of options which software to use for opening and working with the image. The links to Affinity 1 versions are still there, but of course they do not work anymore. How on Earth can I replace them with the links to Affinity 2 versions?
  5. Hi, I installed all three new affinity programs ... but where are there? No shortcuts on the desktop or start menu, the only way I found is to right-click an image and there are the links to the V2s. The idea came up to uninstall the older versions but hey, the new software is nowhere to find, so I am not sure whether it is smart to get rid the the only versions I can use right away. Glary Utilities, which I use to uninstall old software, only shows the old versions, not the new ones. Not looking forward to messing around before I made sure the new versions are really working. So, just a simple easy question: where are the new versions installed, how can I create shortcuts and will I damage the new versions when I uninstall the old ones?
  6. Hi Mike, Thanks for the info. Meanwhile, I simply added a modified master page, used it for the final pages and inserted the information in the head part manually. I just downloaded the new version and will see how it works.
  7. Hi Lee, Thanks for offering your help. I just repeated the process, easy: open the file, open the section manager, click on add section - that's it. the-orchid-collection-ebook-10.afpub
  8. Hi, I am busy with a small ebook, 50 pages including a lot of illustrations. I created five sections using the section manager but when it comes to final one, the sixth, Affinity Publisher crashes reliably and without exception. As soon as a try to add a new section it just disappears and needs a re-start. What could be the reason for it and how can I finish my project (besides just using 5 instead of 6 section, a solution I like to avoid)? If any of you has an idea how to fix this, please let me know, thank you. Dirk
  9. Thank you for explaining everything patiently! I guess it is my way to stumble (The other day I needed more than an hour before I found out that what I was searching for - variation - was called combination by the makers of the software. One hour I could have had a walk in the park of a coffee with friends instead of searching the help, the forums and google, what a waste of time). I get easily impatient and do not even care to look into things that look very wrong at first sight. I should know better after all these years of using software...
  10. Thank you both very much. But ... wow! Who came up with this idea? In a thousand years I would not have found the needed function. In my profession I am used to use the word "persona" in a complete different sense, so the first impuls when I saw the feature "persona" was ... gosh, can I get rid of it? How can I clean the menu from superfluous functions? I'm here to design, not to treat one of my clients. Language seems a virus from outer space ... Would you mind explaining me the idea behind giving the set of functions this name?
  11. Hi, First of all let me say that I am not a real voluntary user of affinity designer, simply because I loved DrawPlus and am annoyed that all the work I created is useless in Affinity Designer unless I export it in some format and import it in AD, which is very frustrating when you have to do it thousands of times. Anyway here I am now and miss many functions I loved in DrawPlus (like cutout studio etc.). But more frustrating is the unfamiliar way AD is organized. Any single step needs hours, simply because I do not know how to do it. Many needed functions are very well hidden and I have not yet found the ones I wanted to start with. Even worse, the help section does not explain them. Let me give you an example and this is also my first question in the forum and I am sure many of you will find it stupid and unnecessary but it may make clear why I am struggling with the software. I want to erase a part of a photograph. Bummer. Impossible. Where is the eraser, which I needed to find in DrawPlus less than a second? Intuitively? Hm. Rather not, at least using my poorly developed intuition. Ok, there is a help section, easy to find (yeah!) and I search for "erase" - and here it is: an icon showing an eraser plus the helping words: Erase Brush Tool You can erase from any area of your image, including any vector objects, using the Erase Brush Tool. Erased pixels become transparent. That is exactly what I already knew, but where the hell do I find the icon in AD? Where is the erase brush tool? Meanwhile I am busy half an hour looking for the eraser, without being helped by the help, I try Google. Tons of tutorials. For Ipad. Some for Windows. None explaining where the erase brush tool can be found. It must be so obvious that nobody cares to show it explicitly. And I must be blind not to find it. Meanwhile iI have been busy 3/4 of an hour. I am writing this, hoping to get an answer here, but hey, simply return to DrawPlus, erase the part of the image I do not need, done. 10 seconds. I hope some day Affinity Designer will reward many hours of learning just the simplest of its tools and stop making me feel like a complete idiot (other issues were similar and still wait to be solved but I stick to the eraser, must be enough for now). So besides asking this question - where is the eraser brush tool - I would also like to know whether there is any help section where I can find answers to this kind of simple questions in order not having to bother you visitors of the forum all too often. Just let me know and you are rid of me. Thank you very much.
