I have just downloaded the .610 version and that is working fine, I updated my 1.7.3 to 1.8 to see if that still crashed and it does, so at the moment 🙂 Photo is working. This is what makes Serif extra special, they listen to their customers and work to make the program even better! Trevor

That maybe true, but all my other programs that use fonts are fine, in a ideal world all the programs should work without the need to remove some of the fonts as photo is a bit more fussy than others! 🙂 Trevor

Good evening, I have just uploaded two files trevordl_additional_fonts (these were in the local users/windows/fonts) and also trevordl_extrafonts, these were fonts that were installed in a different location that wasn't shown in the registry key, but installed through FontExpert 2018. I have just tried running 1.7.3 and that runs fine, but I have the beta 1.8.1.604 and that is working today. Trevor

This is maddening! I stopped the font service and ran the beta version of Photo .604 and it opened. Brilliant. I then closed it down and tried again, but it crashed, I've gone back to 1.7.3 as that still works. I then launched the beta version and it ran 3 times, and then crashed. it seems very temperamental. That's correct, it took several attempts before it would run but closing it down after it worked, it would crash again. Trevor

Hello there, I'm uploading my fonts directory, I did however notice that some of the fonts I have installed are not in the windows/fonts directory but installed as a shortcut, using FontExpert, it installs the fonts but leaves them in their own directory rather than placing in the windows font directory, but they available to all programs that use fonts. It doesn't look like they will show up in the zip file. Publisher loaded first time tonight, Designer took a couple of attempts and Photo ran on the fifth attempt. Trevor

Long story short, all the programs ran yesterday, using the computer today, designer opens every time! Publisher runs fine. Photo crashed, I have clicked to run the program and out of a dozen times, it has run a couple of times! I uninstalled photo and deleted all the files in the appdata/roaming directory. I've just written out the work and fails. Work (4 fails) Work (7 fails) Work Work (2 fails) Work (6 fails) Work. Its almost worth leaving the program running in the background just to maintain it. I have tried renaming the fonts file as explained earlier in this thread and that didn't make any difference. I don't understand why the other two affinity programs would work almost all of the time. Looking at the event viewer logs, all the errors give the .net Runtime as source. Without removing all the fonts I have installed to locate the rogue files, is there anything else that could show why it is failing and at what point it falls over? Trevor

Interestingly, I haven't tried the file change yet, but I have just managed to open all three apps and they all run, although I don't know how long it will last, fingers crossed its just fixed itself. But I will look at file change if it does it again. A weird turnaround!? Thank you for posting a possible workaround. Trevor

I have updated my software today, photo, designer and publisher to the 1.8 versions. Both designer and publisher almost always open, although sometime 1 in 4 times. Since updating Affinity Photo, it fails to load completely, the splash screen will load, the program will try to load and then crash. Looking at the event viewer crash log, the source is the .net framework as shown below. I have uninstalled Photo and rebooted and reinstalled, and also removed the framework and reinstalled. I've just tried running them again, and opening all three programs, Publisher opened, Designer crashed then opened the 2nd time and Photo won't run at all. If anybody could shed any light on the subject and offer a fix for this, I would be very grateful. I've just done a search for the Kernel.fontcache and there was a mention earlier this year, but there was no follow up, and there may be a font issue. I am using FontExpert 2018 and I have a fair amount of fonts installed, it says 1059, could that be the issue, is my only plan to install all the fonts and reinstall each one to see which causes a crash, I will try that, it could take a while! Publisher can already output imposed pages to an outside program via printing, it can create flat pdfs ie single pages within the program, will Publisher be updated to output imposed pages to pdf in any update coming soon? I can create imposed files in Pageplus x9, without any troubles, (usually), with all pages in the right place. I know the option wasn't in the original version of pageplus but took a little time to appear. The printing company hasn't had any problems taking the imposed files and running them straight out without any additional work, I can output the cover pages in one pdf and then the inside pages on another, if the cover was on a different material. I'm curious to know why this option was left out at this time. Trevor

I've just updated the graphics drivers, I ran the repair tool, after restarting the computer all three affinity apps open first time. thanks for your assistance, hopefully these will stay working correctly now. Thanks trevor

I wonder if other people might have the same issue as me, I have the Affinity suite installed on my win10 pc (1903), i5, 16gb ram, ssd/hd installed, Radeon RX580 (radeon 19.7.4 driver). Every time I want to use photo or publisher, I have to launch the program at least 3 times, I click on the icon, the loading splash appears and then it shuts down, I've just tried it again, publisher, at least 3 times before I can use it, I can't see any faults in the windows log, so I don't know if it is crashing as other programs might, or just not running. It seems only designer plays ball and launches first time. All three apps running 1.7.1.404. Enclosed is the latest crash reports for today for photo (93b, d86, b6c) and publisher (6ad, f3f, 238) if they help. I quite agree, Pageplus went through so many upgrades to where it is now, I think its a great program, and I still use it today. Is the new Affinity Publisher based around pageplus the early years, so with that in mind, will it be a good few years before Publisher can come close to the pageplus x9 standard? I'm all for new software and I think the new Publisher looks lovely but doesn't seem in my opinion to have the same user easability (is that a word?). Whats the hook to jump over to Publisher from pageplus? Trevor
