  1. @walt.farrell Also apologies for the double pasting of the one image. There were only two in screen when I left the forum. Hope it was not too confusing.
  2. @walt.farrell Sorry - the DPI's were the same at 300. Thanks for this. The pixel grid is something I am not familiar with. I am an amateur trying to create graphic fiction in a minority language so for me it's raw art ability and get stuck in with the software with youtube tutorials. If you know of a guide to such things I'd love to have the details. With regard to the pasting I was using the selection tool and pasting to isolate part of an image rather than grabbing the whole layer. Not sure whether this makes any difference? Thanks for your help.
  3. @walt.farrell Sorry for the delay in responding. I'm afraid what I have here in terms of screen shots might not be much help. (also I struggled uploading the screen shots) The first screen shot shows a copy of the image pasted to another document and then worked on again to modify it's appearance somewhat. The second screen shot shows the image as it was originally drawn using a drawing display. The first screen shot shows the image following pasting to another document. It has been moved and (I'm not sure here) I may have re-sized the second document following pasting - enlarged slightly. Check the blur in the first shot in the beard especially compared to the original drawing. Hope this helps - and a massive thanks for your advice.
  4. Thanks for the responses - so quick! I need sometime to take screen shots and upload so I will get back to you all again. Your assumptions about pastin then re-sizing and moving are correct. I often need to do this with the pasted layer/selection. I will come back with evidence to explain tomorrow. Sorry for the delay.
  5. I use Affinity Photo to illustrate. With copying and pasting to a new layer the new layer loses quality and sharpness. Line work becomes less precise and more blurred. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
  6. It is true that only since the latest upgrade that the problem has occured.
  7. Thanks for the pormpt help! It's the actual Affintity app which is too big for the screen. I have found a "sort-of" soultion which is to go to Window where (I thought) I clicked "Show full screen" and now I can see the left, right an top tool bars but the bottom of the window is off the screen. I went back to Window and the "Show full screen" I thought was there, was not there to choose anymore - so as you can see I am confused. Affinity Photo is now functional for me but the bottom of the window is missing and I can not reach it to drag it up. Also the Mac menu at the bottom sits on top of the window. It's still not right - I will keep trying. Thanks again!
  8. When I open Affinity Photo the work area is too big to fit on the screen so: I can not see the tool bar at the top I can not see the tool bar on the right I can not see the red, yellow and red buttons to minimise etc I can see the left edge of the work area and move it to the right but I can not then move the resized area to the centre because I can not see the tool bar at the top I have access to all the items at the top in the Mac menu File Edit Text etc. Basically it's unusable. I have had all the updates. (I work with an X-Pen drawing display which is rubbish - it's the one they made where the display died and you can only use it as a tablet while looking at the Mac to see what is going on.) Any help appreciated Huw
  9. Hope it helps. The suite of Affinity software is superb. Best wishes Huw
  10. @Old Bruce My friend - more savvy than I am - took a look and he noted something similar. All the layers were created by me or by cutting and pasting images from the web which I used as a guide to create caricatures. They were binned once I had no further use for them. e.g. I borrowed a photo of Gareth Bale to create the caricature on another layer using drawing tools. Then the photo of Bale was binned. I also did the same to "steal" patterns for the blue dress and for the sea texture. These layers were kept in their modified form. I have very limited understanding of channels and masking - sorry. Thanks for taking a look, Huw
  11. @markw Layers appear as normal on my machine. When I zoom in and out they appear as normal in the layers panel. As I said they disappear in print preview. Thanks Huw
  12. Hi MEB Thanks for getting back to me. I have attached the file - no need for privacy. A friend took a look at the file and felt that somehow some sort of mask is having an effect. One neither of us can detect. The closer you zoom-in the more elements disappear - characters at front of car disappear. Zoom out they re-appear. The same layers disappear on printing too. I have messed around with RGB and CMYK and Greyscale imported images in creating the work. I have also pasted images from the web as a guide to create caricatures - then deleted them. A3 in size. Best of luck - any suggestions welcomed. Huw A3 PJ.afphoto
  13. I’m an illustrator. I have a document made up of whole range of cartoon characters their heads and bodies on separate layers. Mac OS. At 50% all can be seen on screen. Anything at a greater zoom (51%+) three character bod layers disappear. Zoom out they return. If you duplicate they behave in the same way. if you try to print a hard copy the 3 layers are absent. If you export to JPEG/PSD/PDF etc they behave in the same way. Transferred to an iPad (airdrop) same problems. Any ideas?
