  1. Yep, I am aware that there is no correct default conversion. I'm mostly talking about things from an aesthetic point of view. I have tried playing with the colour noise reduction, and to match what you get out of Photos.app or ACR, you have to push it to the Extreme level, which obviously isn't great for the colour in the rest of the image. I'll try and get you a really obvious example. The raw conversion process in AP just seems to leave red hotspots, that are really evident in Fuji RAF files.
  2. Thanks photog. The details adjustment shouldn't really need to be used to save poor RAW processing. Coranda, I'll post an example tomorrow. Photog's post explains it pretty well (it could be a Fuji thing- I must test that) but I don't think it's a a channel being blown out. What I mean by large amounts of exposure compensation is that it's an image that's very dark and it was shot at a decently high ISO. So, when trying to recover the dark areas you're really pushing things. But, it's not just in ACR that things look right. As mentioned Apple's Photos app also does a solid job.
  3. That's a great question. But this issue is seen without any kind of tone curve that can be adjusted in the app. (ie: the Assistant off)
  4. So I've found that the raw processing in Affinity Photo (for images that require a large amount of exposure compensation) has me questioning how good it is. The Photos app seems to produce better results with almost no effort. Affinity seems to show up some ugly red blotches (I can add images if someone is curious) that leave a lot to be desired. This is with some Fuji RAF files, but I'd be interested to know if someone else has seen something similar. The blotches in the dark areas are more obvious when the assistant is on, applying a tone curve, but even with it off it's easy to see they're there from the beginning. The results remind of what I'd get from Aperture. Lightroom and Photoshop would handle the extreme adjustments much better due to what I can only image is better raw processing.
  5. Cool, thanks! That's the kind of answer I was after :) I would definitely like to see it happen that way.
  6. That doesn't fully answer my question. The guy goes back in to edit things, but every slider is reset back to what it was originally. That's not exactly a helpful workflow if it is non destructive. I feel like I know the answer to my question but I'm double checking in case I've missed something.
  7. So the manual mentions that the changes made in the develop persona are non destructive, which to me implies that once you've left the persona (by pressing the 'develop' button), someone could go back to the develop persona later and tweak the develop settings. But, that doesn't seem possible. Or am I wrong?
  8. Haha, yeah ;) In truth I don't really mind theirs because they're minimalistic and the colours are well chosen, but it is ironic that the best graphics tool makers have some of the weakest app icons. This from Autodesk, for example... While I get the 3D nature of them, it's hard to make something uglier...
  9. I can't say I loved the old icons for Designer and Photo, and the new ones are pretty meh as well. Serif, you guys have an incredible looking website, but (and no offence to the creator) the new app icons just don't speak to the power of the apps themselves. They look a bit amateurish next to every other app icon on my dock, and even more so when you compare them with the artwork that is featured with Designer. Obviously that's just my opinion :) But I just felt like suggesting the job of creating some really awesome icons, that inspire people to buy or use the apps, isn't over yet.
  10. As a photographer myself (and an Aperture user) I'm not sure I agree with a lot of what you've written. The point about ETTR is an interesting one, but since doing so in most cases will kick up ISO, it probably isn't worth it (as one of your linked articles also mentioned). Also, when it comes to exposure adjustments versus recovery, it all comes down to the algorithms used. Aperture's recovery is completely different to Lightroom's, as is every other adjustment, even if named the same thing. Anyhow, I'm sure Serif will handle things well...
  11. Haha, thanks :) Although, I'm sure not too many animation hungry designers would be running systems like what you were...
  12. I completely agree! The standard OSX interaction method should move aside to make way for what you've suggested, Achim63. It'd be far more efficient. As for the scrubbing, a side icon would work, but if implemented correctly you can have the best of both worlds- a click to select the value and a click-hold to scrub. And of course, the behaviour should be application wide. Any thoughts on this, Serif? :)
  13. From memory spacebar also works as a sticky key. But thanks guys. That sounds good enough for what I'm doing.
  14. Ah, right. Thanks... I should have looked there!
  15. Or Fusion which, unless you need the high-end features, is free via Blackmagic.
  16. Is it possible to add sticky keys? For those not in the know, sticky keys are keys that when held down change to a tool, but when released swap back to the last tool being used.
  17. A popular option in a lot of 3D software these days (the better packages, anyway) is the ability to drag left/right on a box in which numeric entry happens, making it fast to increase or decrease the value. Adobe haven't yet figured out this would be helpful, so it'd be great to see this happen in Affinity! Sometimes they also have a modifier key or two to allow the scrubbing to either more slowly change the values or increase it by a lot more. This would be really helpful when increasing the size of text in a text box, which can't be scaled via some handles, like the art text.
  18. I'd also like to see this happen. Pressing escape in Affinity Designer (not sure about photo) also works unusually.... it backs out of dialogue boxes without cancelling changes. Usually escape would discard changes, with Enter confirming them.
  19. Thanks guys, those are what I'm after. Specifically, the ctrl-tab one. Question though- has anyone mentioned on this forum about customisable keyboard shortcuts?
  20. Jim, what do you mean by "the library and keyword functions are not being migrated to Photos." The Photos app supports keywording (and keywords are brought over from Aperture) and the library works exactly the same as Aperture, except that Projects are converted to albums. The structure of your library would be retained.
  21. I might have missed this, but any chance shortcuts for moving between views could be added?
