  1. Good morning (o; I worked on a design stored on a APFS volume... Now when I launch Designer 2.0.0 again it wants to access that volume again which isn't mounted... Therefore it takes a long time and 5 nagging popup dialogs saying that there was a problem mounting that volume: 2022-12-20 06:33:02.509 Affinity Designer 2[3401:88146] -[NSData(SecurityResource) URLSecurityScopedResource:] - Error Domain=NSPOSIXErrorDomain Code=65 "No route to host" 2022-12-20 06:33:33.854 Affinity Designer 2[3401:88146] -[NSData(SecurityResource) URLSecurityScopedResource:] - Error Domain=NSPOSIXErrorDomain Code=65 "No route to host" 2022-12-20 06:34:06.009 Affinity Designer 2[3401:88146] -[NSData(SecurityResource) URLSecurityScopedResource:] - Error Domain=NSPOSIXErrorDomain Code=65 "No route to host" 2022-12-20 06:34:37.434 Affinity Designer 2[3401:88146] -[NSData(SecurityResource) URLSecurityScopedResource:] - Error Domain=NSPOSIXErrorDomain Code=65 "No route to host" 2022-12-20 06:35:09.642 Affinity Designer 2[3401:88146] -[NSData(SecurityResource) URLSecurityScopedResource:] - Error Domain=NSPOSIXErrorDomain Code=65 "No route to host" So it takes more than 2 minutes to startup... I assume this affects other programs as well...
  2. Evnin' In the workbook I received last week there is a nice tutorial to use several shots at different focus depths....and it seems the Lumix GX can shoot a 4k series of photos at different focus depth as well....but in the docs it says you have to choose then which picture you can export. Someone has the GX80 and knows of the whole series of pictures can be exported to AP for further focus processing? Or any other DSLM camera which can do multi-focus shots? PS: Bugger..didn't saw on ipad I posted in the wrong forum
  3. Just to mention that both books arrived within same week Just wished the DHL tracking would have been released by Amazon... BTW: Were those books done in Affinity Publisher? And when would PDF versions be availabe for tablet reading?
  4. Ah okay... Is there or are there plans on a "how to move from illustrator to AD" guide? Since this is one of the main audience, or what I experienced from online media about your products, it might help other people who want to migrate away from Adobe...
  5. I know I'm a pita as an old Illustrator user The path tool is very nice in AD and works more logical as in Gravit Designer....but there is just one tiny thing which would make it equally usable... When you draw a bezier path you click and drag to define the inbou d and outbound angle/distance of the bezier points... If you then want to just modify the outbound distance of the bezier point, you have to command-click to modify it... In Illustrator you just click/drag onto the existing set path point to modify the distance...which makes drawing paths even faster...especially when redrawing scannd art...
  6. Well I am aware how to rotate an object with the handles...or use the transform tool... But this weekend I had to copy mirror a design on a specific vertical axis to get a symmetrical design...this can only be done complicated with an additional path on the mirror axis.. You can't mirror/copy objects on an arbitrary point at an orbitrary angle with ease like in Illustrator...not to mention the preview mode... Have you ever looked at this how Illustrator does it?
  7. Evenin' As a new AD/AP and soon publisher user I would like to know if there are any plans to enhance mirror, rotate or skew tools like I was used to it on Illustrator for decades now Copy/rotate an object is clear to me...though takes more steps in AD... The mirror tool only allows on vertical or horizontal axis... In Illustrator you just select an object, option-click anywhere you want the rotate/mirror point...and in the popup you specify the angle of rotation or the mirror axis...select copy or not...and you could see a preview... Never figured out in AD how to mirror/copy an object this easily...
  8. Well I started with Illustrator 88 and version 5.5 was the best in my opinion...then it just got overloaded... I very like AD and AP and bought them both together with the work books and then cancelled my Adobe subscription Indesign was always a pain and I am looking forward to APublisher... Maybe there are some restriction in mimic Adobe features to not get a call from lawyers...but their rotate, mirror, skew tool is perfect for such work...and exists since decades... Just did a flyer for my girlfriend last week for her business...and it was a snap to create...faster then with Illustrator But their path tool is currently unbeatable (o;
  9. Who mentioned that AD is the Adobe Illustrator killer app? It is not there yet, but hopefully soon :-) The trick I've done is to draw a small vertical line on the guide line...group it with the objects I want to mirror...duplicate them and drag them to the right where the placed line is now on the left, which is used to align on the guide line (o;
  10. Well I just started and there are some hundreds pages of work book to go through which finally arrived today (o; This with the mirror tools is a real bummer when redrawing symmetrical patterns I scanned and placed as a template...is there a trick to have objects mirrored at a set vertical guide line?
  11. Ah there is something...though not that obvious (o; Toolbar has a "show rotation point" icon...this can then be moved to the desired center point of transformation (o;
  12. Hmm..thanks..though it is Command-J for duplicate..at least on my computer... Don't have a context-menu here when node tools is selected....only in the toolbar are the commands Also with the node tool I can't select a rectangle region to select several points... So if there isn't any flipping on edges or at the mouse click position I assume there isn't anything where I can rotate then an object and copy it at a specific angle... like in Illustrator select the rotation tool, select the object, option-click at the desired center of rotation and then enter number of degrees to rotate...
  13. Hello How would I make a symmetrical copy of a path in AD? In Illustrator is was damned easy to use the copy tool for vertical line and option-click on one point on the vertical symmetrical axis...and then join the path points together with command-J. I don't see anything here in AD..furthermore you can't even select an open path, continue to draw a path and connect to another open path...
  14. So AD is not a real vector software but a mix of vector and bitmap like Gravit Designer That would explain why opening a SVG file the document size is displayed in pixels like 242.4 x 153.1. This DPI stuff confuses probably many Illustrator users, like reimporting a SVG export of 85mm x 54mm gives back a document size of 20.5mm x 13mm.
  15. Well I am not talking about placed images but created vector objects.. Document size A6 landscape (148mm x 105mm @ 300dpi) Then I draw a square 40mm x 20mm and change then the DPI settings to 400. Now the vector square is 30mm x 15mm in size, which is a total bug in my opinion. Not to mention the odd empty selection in the screenshot (o; I expect the vector objects to be the same size no matter what DPI settings it is set..
  16. Hello I assume the DPI settings in the document setup is meant for rendering place bitmap images when exporting. But why does changing the DPI settings influence the document size itself? It is a vector program after all (o; If setup a document to be 85mm x 54mm in size with default 300dpi, then changing it to 600dpi the document is enlarged with the graphic elements being scaled down.
  17. EHLO (o; I created a design for a NFC card to be laser engraved in the format 85mm x 54mm. The engraver software only accepts .ai or .svg format for opening...but when importing the SVG created with AD it is around 3 times bigger.. Also when opening the SVG in AD it is displayed as 1010px x 638px. So how can I export the SVG that document size is preserved?
  18. Hello dominik Thanks for the pointer (o; But it might not work for people like my girlfriend who just wants to point and click Gravit Designer is still her first choice (o;
  19. EHLO (o; This is probably not on the high priority list, but as an existing gravit designer user I find the additional document presets for social media very handy... Especially my girlfriend likes the predefined Instagram, Facebook, whatever keeps you 25hours busy a day social media size presets in gravit designer. Or maybe a user definable set of presets?
  20. Hello Steven Thanks for the ultra quick help cheers from \.ch (o; richard
  21. EHLO (o; As a long time Illustrator user (since 88/1.1 ;o) I like the path tool which I used mostly to trace a placed bitmap. The path tool is mostly identical to Illustrator with one exception: - When you click-drag in a previous set bezier point you change the bezier handle symmetrical whereas Illustrator doesn't So you have to use the Command key to modify the handles if you want them to be non-symmetrical. The option-key behaviour is the same though. I am currently still faster with Illustrator tracing a bitmap
  22. I just came across designer recently as I was looking for alternatives to dump my Adobe cloud subscription... First I started with Gravit designer 3.4.0 where I am doing beta testing and then bought today AD and AP this morning (o; Nevertheless Gravit Designer has a nice feature where you can double-click on a placed bitmap image and it activates then the cropping tool whereas in AD you have to navigate left, activate the cropping tool, and after making changes navigate again left to deactivate the cropping tool. In Gravit Designer it is just a quick double-click to activate/deactivate :-)
  23. Hello I am thinking about getting the AD and AP workbooks... But it seems it is impossible to have both books in the shopping cart. It is always the last book I chose. So do I have to place two orders with twice the shipping costs? thanks in advance richard
  24. The same is true for Illustrator...but with drag-and-click Illustrator is faster and more intuitive drawing paths (o; Wish this simple feature would be included as well as option-click and drag was implemented ;-) OTOH: Can't beat the price (o;
  25. That has the only effect to have the bezier handle in 45 degree steps orientation...
