It was as soon as the dialog was opened. But when I uninstalled BOTH apps and reinstalled, the problem was resolved. A bit drastic though as I have yet to reinstall the extras.
-
I tried again, this time uninstalling both apps and restarting after each. It seems to be ok now. Fingers crossed
Thanks for everybody who tried and succeded in helping

>With a view to perhaps finding the cause;
>Which OS are you on?
Windows 10
>Which Designer version are you using?
1.8.3 both designer and photo
>Where are you trying to save too?
Not just on saving, its on opening too. And mu usual downloads folder
>Is this happening with one particular file or all files?
No files at all just an empty instance and anything that open the file dialog. From scratch in Windows Exploere then Open by open with opens the file into either app but Save then isn't possible
>Dose it happen with new files with new content?
See above
Have you tried a “Reset” of Designer?
Or indeed a full uninstall of the app and then reinstall? (Though it’s a good idea before doing either of these to make sure you have a backup of the apps User folder which contains stuff like brushes etc… that you have added over time)
full un and reinstall of photo or designer didn't help. -
OK checked and did that.... dropbox and gdrive both closed, Webroot off. Open photo, open dialog ... stuck.

Can someone for serif PLEASE look into this. First it was designer that couldn't save now its photo too. It seems to be the file dialog that is causing the problem. Whenever I use the file open or save dialog the system hangs and I have to crash out of the app. I have rebooted.
If I open designer or photo then try to open anything it hangs on the open dialog. I can "open with" but cannot save either as the file dialog hangs. I have other apps that seem to use the Windows 10 file dialog ok, its just affinity photo and designer. Such a pity, I love learning to use these apps but now I am stuck with lightroom 6.
My photo.dmp file is too big to upload it seems so I have zipped it but at 686mb this is still too big as my internet is slow. fwiw the system error log entries for this error is below

If you want me to load the dump file I can do so overnight. I hope someone can look at this problem. fwiw it may be that the size of my dump files (4.8gb from photo and 2.6gb in designer may be an indicator of the problem?
-
No I am clicking on the close window cross of the save dialog because its all I can click.
As for how long I waited? I went to lunch - is that long enough?
This happens on an almost empry file, such as your suggestion of file new and using a preset.
it seems only a new design causes the issue saving as untitled.afdesign (can't try another name becasue thats where it hangs) but loading an existing design and saving as seems fine. But I have just done as you suggested and the dump file is 1.8gb perhaps that indicates the problem in itself? I won't upload it just yet.
I have just looked at my system logs and this is logged at each of my saving failures

Back again. Uninstalled and reinstalled but still unable to save only export. The save dialog comes up, I click to name the file and the timer comes straight up and hangs the progtam. All I can do is crach out of designer.
What further info can I furnish you'all with? Perhaps some technical support from serif?
-
Clever, and it works though as you say I hope its not a permanent solution.
-
I guess you get what you pay for with free fonts.
Just reinstalling Designer. I'll be back if I still have the problem.
-
This is now serious. I am unable to save designer files at all. I choose save or save as as cannot change the path or file name it just hangs. Photo saves just fine. This make it impossible to use designer. I have rebooted and its the same, as soon as I either ckick the save button or try to name the file it hangs and I have to crash out of Designer. I can export ok. Help please?

1.I am adding a text box over an image. It has been downloaded and installed in Windows 10 (Trajan Pro Regular). The same font's weight can be adjusted just fine in Paint but it seems to make no difference inTrajan-Pro-Regular.zip designer
2.I cannot seem to save the file it hangs when I go to save, I cannot change the name and have to halt the app. When I go back in it recognises that I have an old file and opens it for me but I cannot save as a different name, it just hangs. Neither can I find the original.
-
You are right but, as I just sais, I think I have answered my own question. Looking at the suggested video and my own shots I can see the issue.
Thanks though
Pat

I think the absence of suggestions tells me what I need. I was just checking I hadn't missed a tool. Looking at the time spans, its just too short.
-
I can remove moving people by using an ND filter and taking a long exposure. I can mimic a long exposure by taking multiple shots and merging the stack in AP - but this doesn't work too well for removing moving objects. I also tried merging about 20 shots in a deghosted HDR to little effect for my purpose. Perhaps they were too close timewise? Is there any other approach I am missing?
-
Does it matter what order I add the images?
-
Hi,
I love the pano persona. I have successfully stitched vertical and horizontal panos when lightroom 6 has failed.
Is it possible to stitch images that aren't a classic pano? eg 8 images forming an overlapping 2x4 montage (is that the right term?). I could do it in two horizontal panos and try to stitch those together but it doesn't work too well and I was wondering about a bit manual adjustment such as when the images are taken manually?
-
I have used the lightroom plugin to edit three bracketed shots in affinity photo. So I have three tifs duly loaded but the only option seems to be New HDR which only allows me to add from hard disk. Have I missed something?
-
No nothing. I guess I'll export as jpg and just work on that. One can only spend so long. I though it would just be my procedure rather than a possible bug.

OK I have recorded what I am doing. I rasterised the merged stack (after adjusting the exposure layer) which created a separate pixel layer (which afaics is not empty since the tiny "thumbnail" shows the image). The https://www.loom.com/share/c452e906262b4d4a8f5e62d3adfdad6a video shows me attempting to burn to now avail. Or heres the rasterised image (only 150mb)
-
I have merged a stack of hi iso images and - fantastic result! I added an adjustment layer for exposure - fine. But now I want to do some specific editing - burning some of the bright spots for instance but none of the tools do anything. I can go through the motions but nothing happens. I tried directly on the merged layer and it creates a new pixel layer. Tried on that layer and nothing happens. I think I am missing a stage here. Can anyone advise? I'd upload the .afphoto file but its 3.5Gb. Have rasterised the image now and have just an exposure adjustment layer and a pixel layer that still refuses to allow burning.
-
Thanks. I'll start a new topic.
-
Great, I knew it would be easy. Can I ask now what I do to actually edit the image merged from the stack? I created an adjustment layer to adjust the exposure but I cannot use the individual tools. I added a pixel layer, nothing happens whne I apply the burn tool. I selected the "root" live stack group and it auto-creates a pixel layer but which still doesn't enable the tools to do anything.
Hope you can help.

I have a png of a signature with a transparent background. I want to fill-in the signature text but not sure where to start.
