I posted about this several years ago, but no solution was offered. Seems to me they could easily give you the option to switch that window's background from dark to white. Many of my "Assets" are black-lined vector drawings. For me, the way it is still, it is USELESS!

Gary- Thank you for the quick reply, and a good attempt to help me. I hadn't thought to check the layers. Unfortunately, the problem doesn't seem to be located there. I couldn't see anything out of place or order, or suspicious there. Any other thoughts? Page 26 is particularly confounding because I can not find any container (text box) for the text on that page. There appears to be text in the invisible/black area above that page, which I can tell is there by putting the text cursor in the top visible line and using the left arrow repetitively, and it moves to unseen lines above the page and steps backward through a few invisible lines there?? I do have some page formatting items on the top of each chapter page, and those things appear on top of the main story text on that page. I can use the layers panel to hide those page items (chapter number, name & page #.) Their presence doesn't affect the underlying story text. The text on that page also seems to exist in the invisible/black area below the page, and goes on for some distance down. If I place the cursor in the middle of page 26 and hit Ctrl-A, text gets highlighted/selected starting on page 8 (where a fresh text flow was initiated) thru p27 and the highlighting continues on to the next 'empty' page showing "ghost/empty" paragraphs?? Weird and frustrating. Stew

I am entering a book for a friend into Publisher (now v2). It's over 180 pages. I've managed to create some text flow problems. The incoming text flow on page 25 has a small red triangle at the point where the blue text flow line terminates on the upper left side of the page. And, there is a text flow small red triangle and a line going UP starting at the bottom right side of the page, which terminates on the same page with a small red circle a bit above the small red triangle on the left side (noted in the previous sentence.) Then, the following page (26) has no text flow indicators. It has text appearing at the immediate top of the page, which is staring in the middle of a sentence and continues to the very bottom of the page. Something is seriously messed up. I need help getting this fixed. I am attaching a screenshot that shows these problems. PLEASE note: This is a very personally revealing book about a woman who is autistic. Please be discreet - it should not be necessary to read the text to address the flow problems - let's keep this private until she decides to share it with others. Thank You.

Somehow, I made a mistake in the flow of pages in a book I am assembling for someone. A page flow error occurred, when a poem page was inserted and now the next page, which is a new chapter, is linked BACK to the poem page, and I can not get the text for that chapter to appear on that page. The poem page is linked to the page AFTER the new chapter. I don't know to repair this page flow linking problem. Can someone help?

Please quickly implement the ability to change the background color of the asset panel. If one choses the dark skin for the product, the assets are not visible. Most of my assets are black line graphics. Give us the option to change to a brighter (but not stark white) shade.

When Publisher first starts a 'panel' is presented. On the bottom right in that panel are options to Close and for creating a New Document. I'd like to see the "Recent" files option there also, since I do that 90% of the time.

When selecting a font size from the top left drop down menu, I am presented with a list that starts with the size of the current selection, and they increase from that point. About half the time, I want a smaller size. Thus I have to push the selection scroll bar UP to see some smaller choices. Please open the font size selection list with the existing size highlighted in the middle, with some smaller choices immediately available above it, instead of only larger choices.

Sorry - I assumed this help was specifically for the Publisher. That's what I am working with. I now have noticed the Transparent Background checkbox in the the New Document creation window. So my problem has been solved. Thank you.

All layers I can create are given a solid color - white by default, but I can chose other colors, EXCEPT when I select 'none' after right clicking on the layer in the layers tab, it stays white. I want to create an image that has no background - for an example: a grid of black lines like a tic-tac-toe grid, that can be exported and used as a placed image elsewhere, perhaps as a .png image. How can I do that?

More bingo: there are buttons in the ribbon for this! Great. I missed them. Sorry for my ignorance. Thanks for the help.

Thank you for the two replies. I did see that the whole page rotates when I right click and chose a rotate command. That's why I wanted to undo that operation quickly with Ctrl-z. I guess there are no commands for flip, or invert or rotate for an object. I do know you can manually rotate a selected object with the mouse, with or without fixed increments if you use the Ctrl key with the operation. Menu commands, or even buttons on the gui for flip, invert and rotate would be helpful. They exist in competitor's programs.Really handy.

Control-z is the universal "undo" keyboard shortcut for PC's. It doesn't work in the new Publisher when you apply a rotate left or right to a selected vector object. Yes, you can effectively undo it by right clicking on the object and select reset rotation, or rotate in the opposite direction, but Control-z should also work. ALSO, PLEASE make the topics SEARCH-ABLE ! It is a waste of time looking through 15+ pages of posts to find your issue.

Thank you both for the replies. After restarting the system and reloading the program, I have been able to Add from Selection to the Assets panel, after grouping all the separate elements. Unable to drag things onto the Assets panel though. Regards, & indeed, Happy New Year all!

I have several .eps files that refuse to be added to an Asset category after they are dragged and dropped into an artboard and are displaying properly. A small window opens and says: "Assets cannot contain embedded documents". I am not aware of anything aside from the vector flourish that is displayed on an artboard, that might be embedded in the .eps file. What am I doing wrong? The Assets panel could be a valuable asset, but at this point it seems to be a work in progress. Precision mouse clicking is required to open the menus (why can't you click on the existing name?) Setting up the categories and sub-categories seems a bit clunky. Non-standard file/folder naming (yes, I realize these are not files.) Visibility is essentially non-existent when black vector assets are placed in the dark version of the Assets panel. In addition, the thumbnails are too small to discern differences in similar entries. An asset can not be dragged or cut and pasted into a different asset collection. Assets can't be reordered by dragging within a category. I selected a complicated vector object and added it to a category. I forgot to group the items first - a significant mistake. The result was around 100 separate items were placed in the category, No undo function. Each item required three operations to delete it - one of the three required moving to the center of the GUI to click in a dialog box there. At a minimum, one should be able to shift-click select multiple items for deletion. I hope these concerns will be addressed soon.
