    However, you can change the document units at any time in Affinity Photo or Affinity Designer -- just select the View (Hand) tool & change them in the "Units:" popup menu in the context toolbar.

    Not quite correct. The ruler units are the same as the document units. When you create a document (File > New) you can select the units that you want to use.
    You do not have that option, though, when opening existing image files (JPG, etc.), and there is no preference to set it.

    The basic problem is the camera image has a 3:2 aspect ratio but the photo card does not -- its aspect ratio is narrower at 7:5.
    So you need to use the Crop Tool to crop off the too-wide edges. One way to do this is to use the Custom Ratio mode to crop the camera image to 7 x 5 (or to 217 x 155 because the custom ratio fields round off fractional numbers).
