Sorry the delay getting back to you. The Betas, like the Affinity Store version - do not run on a sandboxed environment as the Mac App Store versions do. That's why the Beta also runs the plugins without issues.

It's better to uninstall the Mac App Store version. Although the app file is replaced there's other folders files that are not.

The problem still occurs both with JPEG and Raw files. The solution you indicate is only partly. It works only if you right click and choose "Open...."
If I choose "Open with... Affinity Photo 1.8.3." Publisher still opens the file. Also if I choose "Open with... Affinity Designer" Publisher opens the file.
I don't mind putting the default for my raw files to Affinity Photo, but it is not very practical for the JPEG's.
PS Great job with the noise reduction in 1.8.!!!

Hi,
I am wondering if you are considering an image data base management system for the Affinity Photo application. I downloaded the Beta application yesterday and edited about 10 RAW images. I like the user interface, the application runs fast on my iMac and all the tools I used worked flawlessly. I currently use Aperture, but sadly, Apple has stopped all developments for this great application.
