  1. I went ahead with the driver update for the graphics card. Problem solved (it threw me that all my other s/w was fine). Please feel free to go home early today. Thanks for the prompt assistance.
  2. Thanks for the suggestion and I will try it later in the day. I use a lot of other s/w - LR, ACDSee, Luminar, PSP etc. and they are all fine so I am not sure why it would be just AP I have a problem with. Nonetheless I will check out the drivers later. Regards.
  3. Here is a link to a folder with the raw file (used for screenshot) and a 2MB jpeg. https://ln.sync.com/dl/586e3a190/pmf34cst-tffzav72-ywn4pphv-3ixw6vx2 Thanks
  4. Thanks for the prompt response Gabe. This happens every time I open a new file - raw, jpeg etc. I used the screenshot to show the typical effect I get. Very small parts of the actual image show through. I've attached a jpeg of what the screenshot, which was just a random file and opens fine in other s/w, should look like. No I didn't - 2MB and 1MB uploads both failed. I could attach a link but it is just an image of a flower so will not help. It has to be something pretty basic but I went through all the Preferences and did not spot anything.
  5. This started a couple of days ago, my first problem during two years of use. When I open an image it has a strange appearance. I tried resetting everything to default, no change. I just re-installed the program, no change. I've attached a screenshot of the effect (image of a flower) and my color preferences overlaid just in case this is the problem. Probably something silly at my end. Any insights appreciated.
  6. Thank you, much appreciated. Why is it always the simple things that confound me, although I don't find this particularly intuitive. They have a whole list of choices under the layer menu but not this. In ON1 it is something like "select file as new layer". Thanks again.
  7. Just starting to learn the software but combining two of my images has me in trouble. How do I import a second image as a layer. Thanks in advance.
  8. Excellent shots. I agree with the other comments about composition - to me this is a basic tool that is very much neglected. Also the hay is a perfect surround to the images. This is my first post on these forums (fora) as I recently acquired Designer and Photo when they became available for Windows. So far I am very impressed with the software, great value and I find it fun to use. Until now I mainly used LR and ON1 10, plus several others for NR etc., etc. I think I will stick with LR but use ON1 and AF for pixel work. These birds remind me of the American Redstarts I see here in Ontario - they are very friendly and will come very close but are quite active. As an ex-pat I still miss the UK birds (left 40 years ago for Canada) especially the Robin, Curlews, Magpies and Wagtails etc., (I still have The Observers Book Of Birds I won as a school prize around 1957). I noticed your link and whilst waiting for approval to post I had a quick look. It looks interesting although several of the sub-links are no longer available. I was particularly envious of your owl shot. Other than Snowy Owls which have become quite common here I have had very limited success. All the best. Well done. We also had a family vacation for a week in Blyth in the early 60s (the weather was terrible) when we were living in Consett.
