  1. Hi, Thank you for that - That makes sense - I knew there must be a reason for it. I have always worked on the duplicate layer and with the odd thing that did not have its own layer I either pulled back the history bar or replaced the duplicate layer whilst leaving all the other layers alone. I have just tested it and the paint brush works like a treat. I have not got the clone brush to work but back in my mind there is a tutorial that covers cloning from one layer to another. If I get stuck, I will post again. New layer from snapshot it appears to me that what you are saying I actually do but in a different way by duplicating.
  2. I Have been using Affinity Photo since it was first put on the market. I am intrigued as to what uses New Layer and New Layer from snapshot can be put to. My reason for asking is that in all the time I have been using Affinity all bar a few basic changes are made as a separate layer in their own right. The first two tasks I do when I open / create a new image is to Duplicate and Save history with document and then save the image. I am then ready to work on it if required. I could understand it if all editing carried out was not activated within its own layer but directly on the initial background image so would be destructive and a new layer has to be created so leaving the integrity of the original image intact before applying any adjustments. I have looked in the tutorials, the Affinity Workbook and You Tube and yes there is a lot on layers, but I have not discovered one that uses either of these two options. Am I missing something? This may be something I should put in another thread, but does anyone feel like me that the fine option with select does not appear to be as sensitive / accurate as it was when this program was first on the market?
  3. Hi Callum, Thank you for your quick reply and explanation. I am now setting the correct default app. for this application. No - the section only went as far as Affinity Publisher and on installing Design Affinity Design. there was / is no (.afphoto) shown
  4. Hi My OS is Windows 10 Affinity Photo since it was sold as a Windows application Affinity Publisher since first Beta Affinity Design. Since March 2019 My first purchase was Affinity Photo. When I saved an image it was stored as Name: - Name I gave it.afphoto Date modified: identified Type: Affinity Photo File Size: size of file When clicking on a file, Affinity Photo opened up and the image appeared. I then acquired Publisher - from time it was first offered When I then saved any photo all section other than "Type" gave the correct information However the "Type section" changed to Affinity Publisher File, Obviously if I then clicked on the image it returned how do want to open this file I then purchased Affinity Designer and Hey Presto the "Type Section" changed to Affinity Designer File and all newly saved .afphoto images followed. Again if I then click on the image it returns how do want to open this file. In every other respect Affinity Photo works as it should from activating it via the desktop icon- to locating and opening an image - editing and saving, so from that point of view there is not a problem. Neither Publisher nor Designer is responding the same way. My Question is: Why is this Happening as my curiosity has got the better of me. Many thanks
  5. Hi MEB, Thanks for your e-mail and taking the time to review it. I see what you mean with regard to the Mac version. When I first bought Affinity Photo for windows in order to teach myself how to use it I went through all the training videos and discovered that the work within them were related to the MAC version, however it only took a few minutes to find the windows way of doing it. I did this by looking at the clip / video several times to note what icons were clicked on ( this was both in the area of the work space and the icon picture) and was able to convert to the windows version. Once again many thanks
  6. Hi MEB, Thank you for your reply. I have attached screen shots both contain the same 6 photos I have tried out a number of different photos and each time the Zoom focus only disappears when a lot of photos are loaded. As to the number of photos this takes to do it, is dependent on the size of the photo description given to each photo. I would like to reiterate that I am not at all surprised (and in fact expected it) for the photo identification to be reduced and partially lost dependent on number loaded, length of each identification and size of screen. Each photo loaded reduces the amount of space that can be given to identifying the others. I use Windows 10 64bit.
  7. Would it be possible for the zoom % to always be visible within an opened photo even if this further reduces the photo name that is displayed. My reason for this request is due to: In another post I mentioned that I could not see at what zoom level I had a photo. In reply to the actual post, MEB staff Moderator, also kindly told me where the zoom level was located. My response was as follows and hence this separate Features Request. I have now found the display, but it disappears if a large number of photos are opened - due to my personal photo identification set up anything above 4 photos, the end of the identification and the % display is lost. I did expect the identification of the photo name / Info to be lost, due to the reduced size within the application as more photos were added, however it surprises me that it includes the zoom level.
  8. Thank you for your reply and advice. UI Gamma did make a difference but that was this evening with curtains drawn & light on. Lets hope it shows the improvement tomorrow in day light I have now tested this in daylight and there is still a noticeable difference but, not as much as I would like. I looked for the zoom level display as per your instruction but could not locate it. May be I am looking without seeing so will try again tomorrow. I have now found the display but it disapears if a large number of photos are opened - due to my personal photo identification set up anything above 4 photos and the end of the identification and the % display is lost. I did expect the identification of the photo name info to be lost due to the reduced size within the application, as more photos were added is surprises me that it included the zoom level. I will put in another Feature Request to see if it would be possible for the Zoom % to always be visible within a opened photo even if this further reduces the photo name that is displayed.
  9. Hi I have two items I would like to put forward. 1)Hilighting of Opened Photo If you have a lot of photos loaded it is not always easy to see which one it is from the Name / Title bar. Often the grey hilight does not show up very well. Often I have to look ant the X close button to identify which photo is open. Would it be possible to either increase the intensity of the current hilight or make it a different colour. 2) Zoom focus. This may be in place and I have as yet, not found it. When zooming in and out of a photo would it be possible to have as a default display the % for the photo currently being viewed / worked on. Thank you
  10. Hi C, Thank you for your reply as It is nice to understand why programs act in a specific way - all part of the learning process.
  11. Hi I have two items in Affinity Photo which I would be grateful for any comment. 1) When I click on open the program opens up my C drive which only contains my OS. Is there any way I can change this default to Drive H which contains all photo & video software and photos. 2) Photo Name at top of Page. Is there any way in which I can make the highlight of the opened photo a different colour or different shade, as it is not always easy to see in the title bar which photo is open. If I have a lot of photos loaded often the only way to see which one is open is by looking at the white X at the end of each title, to see which one is a different shade. Thank you for your help
  12. Hi, very sorry not to have replied sooner but lost track of the post and did not have notify me activated. Thank you to you both and the problem has now been resolved.
  13. Hi, I have just completed viewing all of your tutorials and I have found them extremely useful and enjoyable. Some of them obviously were over and above my needs of a home user but still interesting. I would advise any one new to photo editing to go through them. I heard about Affinity Photo, but at the time it was for MAC only. As soon as it came out for windows I tried it and bought it. I am really pleased with it and with the training videos which have given me a real boost. Great product. The only little niggle I have is that at the end of each video it lets you know that you can pose questions in the members forum - yes you can but they are not always answered. I understand that some of the questions are very basic and forum members may not feel inclined to answer. As it appears to the only way to contact the Affinity team, it would be nice if any unanswered questions could be flagged up to the team, so they could give some kind of response, instead of leaving it unanswered. After all, the person posing the question obviously wanted an answer, or they would not have gone to the trouble of posing the question and (whilst it may be simple or a silly question) it may be the one thing they are stuck on and cannot get any further. I am a long standing Serif user - since purchasing the very first edition of (PagePlus and) PhotoPlus renewing both every 3 years. PhotoPlus was a good product but you had to know your way round editing and its terminology to get its full potential. Documentation and training videos were either poor or non-existent. When I moved from a, point and shoot camera, to a DSLR I became despondent with the programme, so two years ago I moved to Adobe Elements as there were a ton of "How to" videos on UTube. Needless to say I have now abandoned Adobe
  14. Hi, I have a photo of a silver grey / black cat. The photo was taken using the inbuilt flash. 80% of the colour is good. Unfortunately the left hand side of the face was hit by the flash and has come out yellow. The outer aspects slightly yellow getting stronger as you move into the eye. I have remedied the actual eye by Cloning the other eye and manipulating the clone into place. I now have the hair around the eye and side of face to deal with and this is where I would like help. I have tried cloning from the good areas and whilst it does do things as soon as you get anywhere near the right colour all the texture / definition of the hair goes and it is very noticeable where cloning has taken place. I was wondering if I should be using colour picker. I would be grateful for any advice and help and is there a particular video I should watch as a guide both in order to resolve my issue and how to use the colour picker. Whilst here, can anyone tell me a quick way to get the selection brush selection to stop showing after use? I have tried many things but it appears to remain on screen. Pressing the icon or other icons only brings up blue lines. Eventually it does go after randomly clicking on other icons and then clicking on the work area other than the photo itself. Thank you for any help advice offered.
  15. I am feel It would enhance editing in a positive way, as well as adding a further dimension to the program, if X-Rite ColourChecker Passport Photo could be added to work as a plug in. It would enhance individual camera's calibration and white Balance, when working with RAW files.
