    So UPSET! Publisher

Dare I say...FFS this is a beta. Maybe a thread So SURPRISED when projects work as planned?
  2. Bug or feature or even user error - Publisher retains print quantity and does not default to 1- what a PIA. Print a "run" of 25 docs and then intending to print a single doc, just 1....24 sheets of scrap paper. I dont think I have other software that does this.
  3. I’m an occasional DTP user, creating flyers, price lists and DVD sleeves for my main business of Video Production. I come from an old version of Quark. As with Photo, learning the differences to Photoshop, I’m doing the same with Publisher. I’m confused as to the correct way to put a border on a text frame. In Quark it’s a right click to Modify and then a choice of Borders. As I start to redesign my Quark projects in Publisher, last week, using a picture frame with a text frame, they linked and would reposition together but today on a new project this is not happening without me grouping the layers. Can someone point me to the correct way of having a text frame linked with a border. As a secondary question In Quark there are a variety of Borders – ie thin-thick- thin. As Publisher is currently limited for choice, can someone point me to a “Border resource”?
  4. Many Thanks for your prompt response and pointing me in the right direction. I'm still trying to work out how my earlier ungrouped picture and text frame are linked but at least I now know the correct way to proceed.
  5. One of the most useful features I use in Photoshop is Layer comps. As a Video Producer, often title graphics will be designed, by a graphic designer as part of the brand. Layer comps gives the opportunity to isolate the layers, from the supplied psd and with the additional script "layer comps to files" run out a set of files to one location with one click. These files can then be composited to produce an animated title.
  6. This may well be user error but a search hasn't pointed me towards an answer. I have used an old Quark for the odd bits of DTP I do, for many years. Using last weeks update, I drew 2x 5cm parallel lines -2pt, to "highlight" some text. Displays correctly but prints like its 30pt and a dash looks like a string of sausages. i EDIT: THIS WAS USER ERROR- lines deleted and replaced and now print OK. I will try to recreate sometime.

    Straight lines 10x too thick?

NOT minus 2 pt it was a badly placed dash. I will sort out some screenshots later with the main content removed UPDATE - started from scratch and all OK- then removed and replaced original lines and all now OK. No idea what I had done wrong but will try to recreate when time permits.

    Export to .BMP

+1 for adding BMP and TGA - I was amazed it wasn't added. Went to make a B&W video mask on my laptop which needs to be a BMP or TGA and then discovered it was not there. Really p'd off having resave in Paint.

    Aspect Ratio for Product Photos

In my world of Video, Affinity LACKS Pixel Aspect Ratio, unlike PS, so everything has to be in square pixels. Whilst most Full HD is square pixels, everything else including HDV and some Panasonic 1440x1080 broadcast formats use a 1.33 pixel aspect ratio. EXAMPLE: making a menu for DVD in PAL widescreen (16x9) 720x576 PAR 1.422 - in Affinity this would be done as 1024x576 which is 1:1 = square. 4x3 PAL has a PAR 1.067 so 768x576 is used. Many designers never need or know of PAR! As for the original post do you mean Aspect ratio, or simply resize? Resizing KEEPING with an original aspect or keep AR locked will keep a circle round. ie changing 1000 x 1000 to 100 x 100 but if you unlock and change to 1000 x 100 you will have an image that has been through grannie's mangle! Cropping gives you a selective portion.
  10. Then again you could use the Red Eye removal tool! It is lives within the healing brush tool drop down. Search the Help File.
  11. Apologies for confusion. I thought you were exporting. Funnily enough, I had totally forgotten the tick box and must have ticked it on day one and erased it from my memory cell
  12. Sadly it's a current limitation otherwise known as a PIA :(

Still no real love for Affinity ...

An extremely interesting read and very similar to occasional threads in my world of pro-video. Respectfully I would make the following points: If you are a professional you need the tools that do the job. If AP, which is still not at vers 2, doesn't cut it for you then you need to stay with PS until it does. Whilst I have basic requirements from a graphic/photo software, AP is still missing the features I use and need, i.e. re-editing text in psd, layer comps and related scripts, aspect ratio...my AP is on my laptop for "domestic" use and not on my edit systems. I will review updates as they arrive but as I am on a pre CC version it's no big deal. IF I needed features to do my work only available from CC then that would be the tool I would use. Back in my world, I edit with GV Edius and dabble with Resolve. On the GV forum often missing features will be flagged. Well if Premiere or FCP or Avid has features you need to do your work, then you need to make a decision. I can edit and deliver TV Commercials, or 10 camera live shows and all things in between - if I couldn't I would use something else. Yes there maybe features that would be "nice" but if they were game changers, I would be using something else. Ironically, GV made a very bold decision in 2015 giving a 2 year roadmap for Edius, which in fairness they have kept on track. So for me AP is great but not yet for my work.
  14. After some playing I concur that if the offset is too small, the result appears to look like an Outer Glow...so increase the offset and I can go to bed ;)
  15. It's shadow and as such it is adjusted by the angle. i.e. Changing it to 135 will move the shadow to left and top.
  16. You mean it's not a car crash repair app.
  17. Some people have way too much time on their hands  ...Jamon FYI as you may have missed it, this is an AFFINITY forum. It is a bit of a bummer with all this talk of graphic software and not a mention of how to cook Duck Chinese Style but that's the way it is. ;)

    Order for adjustments?

I had hoped you might have had some informed responses. With video, we tend to "grade" (posh term for "fix it in post" -JOKE) starting with the luma and getting black and white levels "correct" and then working on colour, sometimes working with a matte on a selective colour. So I too would like to see an experts approach.
  19. If you are using Photo then either start the project with Transparent background ticked, or on an existing project then Document/Transparent Background - I dont use Designer so not sure how different that behaves.
  20. Are you using a transparent layer as the Background? Works fine with tiff or psd
  21. Unless I have misunderstood, it works fine. Remember to deselect by clicking outside the marque and also to make the second cut out from the correct SINGLE layer.
  22. Have I missed a tab to change the PAR? For SD DVD 16x9 menus and graphics it is usual to use 720x576 with a PAR of 1.42 although of course the workaround is to use 1:1 and change the document size to 1024x576. Fortunately HD is 1:1.

Layer comps - Layer comps to files

I'm using AP. Hadn't considered a macro but not sure how that could be employed on different batches of "snapshots" ...but the Adobe script manages to do it, so must be worth a try. I have used Macros in P/S so it is worth a try.

Layer comps - Layer comps to files

Thank you for your reply. Snapshots are certainly the equivalent of Layer comps. (half the story) Having got 6 snapshots what I now need to do is produce a set of the 6 individual files. It would seem I can make individual documents and then save each one - tedious. The P/S script runs all the layer comps (snapshots) to a set of files to a chosen save location with one click.
