  1. This is what I have to do now - rotate the text frame. Ok it seems I haven't missed anything that is the only way to achieve it.
  2. (Publisher or Photo) Searching has not thrown up an answer. Currently, If I want to make a text frame for the vertical text on a "spine" ie book cover or in my case DVD sleeve, I would create the text box and then rotate it 90 degrees CW. This is how I have done it with AP from day 1 as in the early days I dont think it was possible. Is there now a "proper way" that has passed me by?
  3. No because you have to then reposition, assuming I cant set a vertical baseline, which is another way of asking my question
  4. I use that as a workaround but in other apps I use in my work, vertical baseline is a mouse click. My workaround is not a big deal but I wanted to see if I was missing a basic option.
  5. PUBLISHER 1.7.2.471 I start from the premise of what am I doing wrong as opposed to WTF? Perhaps WTF am I doing wrong is better still?? I have a design of a DVD sleeve which I export to pdf (print) I print from Acrobat and all black text has a white shadow. I bring the pdf in PHOTO and "I'm still Standing" becomes "I’m SĀll Standing" and "The Little Shoemaker" becomes "The LiĜle Shoemaker" along with other C&@k U$s It prints OK from Publisher but I want to support my friendly Community Interest Company Print Shop to Print and Cut the sleeves so was expecting to send a pdf. How is it I can edit a TV commecial, deliver it to broadcasters complying with the complexities and excitement of ITU-R BT.1702-1 2018, EBU R102 and EBU R128 yet cannot get a simple pdf to print correctly. WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?

    PDF woes

Bryce, following your suggestion regarding registration, I went into the service menu of my Brother laser and did a reregistration and confirm that printing from Acrobat no longer prints with the white shadow. Than you for the heads up on this. The only time I ever do anything like that is with my DVD robotic printers. Coming from an older version of Quark and PS has thrown up some leading points (no pun intended) for sure. Thanks again.

Thanks again. I had edited my post but maybe it had not shown up and your explanation of Photoshop's handling makes perfect sense.

    PDF woes

Excuse my Essex ignorance, but what are ligatures....in this context? EDIT just read Bryce's explanation. Why doesn't Photoshop do the same thing? It prints fine i from Acrobat if the pdf is rasterised.

    PDF woes

Acrobat looks right but prints with a white shadow. Photoshop opens the PDF and the fonts are fine. I just want a good quality pdf that I can rely on.

    PDF woes

Hi Ian Our posts crossed. You are Importing into APub whereas I'm exporting and finding issues, particularly when importing the same pdf into APub and APhoto . My fonts were standard and not missing as you will see from the test files uploaded in the previous post. A pdf exported from Publisher and imported into Photo on the same PC produces garbage. I see way too many dozos who swoop into the Video Editing forum I frequent shouting BUG when it is basic user error so I'm just trying to ascertain a best practice workflow. That said, how can a pdf made in APub have corrupted fonts UNLESS RASTERISED when imported back into the same prog.

    PDF woes

I have now worked out that once again rasterisation (or lack of it) is the cause of the problem. When I went into export/pdf print and selected Rasterise/ Everything the problems went away. That said I still do not know the BEST settings. So that you can see the original issue, I have stripped the project back and saved the pdf WITHOUT RASTERISE 1 When I print from Acrobat I get a white shadow on the text. 2 If I open the pdf in A PHOTO, then some of the text is corrupted- hopefully you will see that well known Elton John number I’m SĀll Standing...etc 3 Not only that the same issue is there when the pdf is re-imported back into APub test.afpub test.pdf
  13. DTP is something I use to support my business of 35 years in video production. Previously my DTP was on an old version of Quark running on XP. It has been obvious from recent issues I encountered in Publisher that my older work flows need tuning for Publisher. I am very grateful for the help advice and support from the forum and Serif. Rasterising. Previously my experience of rasterising was limited to taking a show title from a poster, designed by a "real" designer", rasterising the font and then using it in the video promo or TV ad. In Publisher all layers can be rasterised at print stage, so why rasterise an individual layer. It seems that once an individual layer is rasterised there is no turning back? With regard to RGB imports into a CYMK document, should all assets be in either RGB or CYMK...back to video graphics where some CYMK imports cause issues when working in an RGB enviroment?
  14. Thanks for link. In the article the key seems to be save as CMYK for print. Ideally when importing graphics should they be converted to CMYK or doesn't it matter as long as the export is to CMYK?
  15. Glad I could help.. I've not been able to recreate but at least we have a fix.
  16. I encountered this last week.Reset Studio. View/Studio/Reset Studio
  17. PC - Publisher 1.7.2.471 It started last week with a png but now a text frame. This is a stripped down DVD sleeve When previewed the project looks fine but when printed the backgound behind the middle text frame is discoloured. If I switch the shadow off all is good. On the "proper" document it's screwed in odd places, like the spine and DVD logo. Test project attached. MORE INFO. i dont want to shout BUG. I see that too often on my Video editing forum , when it is blatant user error. HOWEVER I exported the "proper" document to psd. I imported the psd into Photoshop CS3 and it printed fine. In Publisher the same psd when printed is screwed with darkened backgrounds on the text frames. If I'm doing something wrong please tell me else I will shout BUG. Printer is Brother HL-L8260CDW but its the same on my older HP. WTF.afpub

Discoloured back ground in text frame

Yessssssss!!!!!!! Thank you for all your help. One last question (cough) If I ticked rasterise all it worked fine, so why not just keep that ticked?

Discoloured back ground in text frame

Many Thanks Dan for your continued help. I can see and understand the changes made and then tried as you suggested printing with Clip Transparency ticked. All was good except the bottom grey text box on the "back", where the grey was shaded to the right hand side of the box. I then reprinted ticking rasterise entire page, and all was well. If I was my client I would say I was a PIA!!

Discoloured back ground in text frame

Yes. I'm used to working with alpha channels, so could eaily check the logo and switch off the BG. I'm not sure there isnt some sort of corruption. I deleted the file and then replaced it and it seems OK again. Thanks Dan have uploaded. My intention is to possibly add show pics to the front. It's a tough one due to the number of pieces in the show and the dedication. I may well be doing something very wrong but I have been using an old version of Quark on my XP PC until I switched to the Publisher beta and never encountered any problem ( on Win 7 Pro) The pdf hangs printing from Acrobat and from Affinity Pub or Photo is screwed. Photoshop rasterises the import and is OK.

Discoloured back ground in text frame

Thank You for your assistance. On the "proper" document it only partially worked. Even the DVD logo a png with alpha has the grey box as well as another area. Worse I made a 300dpi print pdf - that refused to print from Acrobat. It froze flattening at 43%. However printing document from Publisher, ticking the rasterize entire page, does seem to work. Have to go into London for meeeting so will continue this afternoon.

Discoloured back ground in text frame

Hopefully you can see on this pdf There is no background fill or stroke on that text frame. My WTF scan.pdf

Discoloured back ground in text frame

    Done. Thank you. BACKDROP_055.BMP
  24. PUBLISHER: Layers tab undocked. It will stetch sideways but not down. If I reset studio all is good. Have I done something wrong or is there an issue? (PC BTW)
