  1. I have just updated to the new Beta version .231. I am on windows 7, I took in a Raw file Nikon .NEF spent some time in develop persona as I always do, having got my image as I wanted it I pressed 'Develop' to move to the main Photo persona, after the usual pause the picture came up as expected, but a second or so later it changed to be extremely pale, over exposed or High Key, almost unrecognisable. Certainly not usable. I re-booted, chose a different file, still a Nikon .NEF, did no work in develop, and took it straight into Photo person, the same thing happened, an unworkable image on the screen. I have been using Affinity Photo since day 1,. and I have been using the last beta version .209 very successfully, I updated today and, as a result, I now have no photo editing software. I have taken a couple of screen prints to show the effect, and I have put them in a word document, attached to illustrate the issue Please Help Dave Affinity Photo develop problem.docx
  2. Ron, Perhaps you ought to review this thread, my comment was in reaction to someone else talking about how I should of known about what beta is and what is meant by 'production'. People brought up in the software industry or are young enough to have been taught software jargon at school would immediately have understood. The Seriff assumption is that everyone has these advantages. To non software tech people, or people from different environments or educations the jargon is not obvious. Perhaps a more generic phrase my have helped? 'for community testing and comment, may have bugs, do not use for important work' Either way I understand now. I don't think the situation was handled incorrectly, I have had to learn, presumably there are a lot of others like me out there. There was miss communication based upon the use of jargon which I did not interpret the way it was intended, I had no reason to question what was going off, I skimmed over the disclaimer and it rang no alarm bells to me. I wiped out 1.6 because I thought I had to so I had no workable Affinity Photo. My system did not crash, look at my first posts, 'Develop is not working properly'. the flag of a problem, I got a work around which I found irritating as 1.6 did not have the problem. Then everyone seemed to start scoring points. I went back to 1.6. Another beta release came out with a long list of fixes, but not addressing what to me was a fundamental issue, frustration. I have now found that yet another beta has been released today fixing my bugbear, excellent! I shall revert to 1.7 but with eyes wide open.
  3. Mark, Your comments about disclaimers is just hiding behind jargon, how many of us amateur photographers think of what we do as 'production'? I certainly had no inkling what what was meant, nor what what was implied by the the term beta. but put all that aside, this colour profile issue affects 100% of all the users using affinity to work up raw images. the other items fixed may affect a small percentage of users, so why was this develop person issue not prioritised? Dave
  4. Andy, I went on line, and just downloaded 1.6 without removing the beta, I now have both! As to your other comment about knocking on in years, so am I, my computer skills are, well, questioned by my kids. Next time I play with beta versions I shall at least understand what I am getting into. I do wish a rough timescale was available Dave
  5. I have tried to use the Nik plugins on the new Beta, but they are all greyed out, they worked fine on the previous beta, before I updated. What do I have to do? Dave
  6. I am a bit more philosophical, we all know that sh1t happens, no one would willingly degrade something in front of customers, nor would a good management punish as you suggest, you want a team that will explore boundaries and take balanced risks. In my experience at the sharp end, it is how you react in communication to those affected and then in both speed and thoroughness of the fix. Affinity have acknowledged the issue, have said there will be a fix in the next beta. My mistake was in not realising the full implications or what a beta is and my frustration is around not knowing the time to fix. To the chap who quoted wiki, you need to know you have a gap in knowledge to want to look something up, and wiki is not what I would call 100% authoritative of references.
  7. Ron, I am not up on all this beta stuff, in my industry we used to prototype test, re- prototype & test as many times as we had need to, then launch onto customers, I guess that this is not safety critical stuff like I dealt with. Different industries, different approaches to product development, and I have been retired a long time now. I thought that a beta was an early release to existing customers to get used to, 'not be be used in production' as my license was for 1.6., not 1.7. Being retired, that is not an issue for me, I use the program for my photographic club comp entries and other hobby stuff not for any productive or monetary gain. I thought I had to wipe off the 1.6 from my computer when I put the 1.7 on to it, which I did, so I have no access to that, and, as this was an update to the earlier 1.7, then that version which worked better is lost to me as well. Can I re-install 1.6? do I have to wipe off 1.7?
  8. I am not seeing too much benefit from this new beta, and one very big problem. I am not saying that the improvements are not real, but the dis-benefit from this bug cancels it all out
  9. Whilst all this is very interesting, it means that whenever we want to use Affinity Photo, we have to work around this bug, so when is it going to be fixed? it was not there before on Photo 1.6 so the fix should be pretty straightforward, time scales please? Dave
  10. Is this a function or 32bit versus 16bit processing?
  11. The bottom of the list that I have is: sRCB IEC61966 -2.1 is that what you want me to use. I tried the 32bit and that option was not there? Can I make affinity remember these settings or do I have to do it on each and every picture?
  12. Thank MEB, I will try this out this evening Dave
  13. Can you spell out precisely the steps to find this 'non linear sRGB', because it does not seem to be an option in the menu that I think your are pointing me to? which Persona, which menu, which sub heading please, or post a screen shot?
  14. There is NO 'sRGB' option that I can see ony linear versions of one form or another. is this another bug? I have tried the other work around. I set the Develop assistant to output 32 bits image, not much luck so I activated 'apply tone curve' in addition. I am still not convinced, but it is better.
  15. I have done some more experiments and what is more worrying is that the histograms are staying the same despite a major shift in file brightness. this error is too much to correct with a gamma adjustment see word file attached for an illustration how do I get back to Beta .209?? or even to v 1.6? Affinity Photo develop problem doc 2.docx
  16. I have been using Affinity photo Beta test version, when I export finished files to TIFF, the thumbnail image is corrupted , looks like something from a Hi Pass filter mid process screen, or some weird blend mode result. When I try to open the TIFF in AF Photo or ant thing else I get a weird pink rectangle, same shape as the photo canvass. AF Photo tries to open as a Raw File. I have flattened the image and even rasterized it to no avail. This is on around 90% of my work, occasionally I get one that works. I want to archive all my processed images as TIFF to save on disc space.
  17. The problem seems to related to having the 'transparent background' ticked under the 'Document' menu. I have changed no Tiff export settings. I will look out a couple of files for you . Dave
  18. You misunderstand, I am working totally in the Beta version, I export to Tiff, and I cannot open the Tiff file in the Beta version that I just saved it from, so I tried to open the Tiff file in my usual viewer software, exactly the same results at 1.7 Beta, a corrupted file. I thought this was the Beta forum
  19. They have been working on a DAM, and making promises, since I first started with the Beta version. Affinity have wasted resources on I Pad versions but not yet finished the main software product. I find this frustrating to say the least
  20. I have been looking at some of the photo enlargement and re-sizing software, and Genuine Fractals seems to be as good as any around, and works both standalone and as a plugin to photoshop. If I invest in this I want to be able to use the process in my workflow in Affinity Photo. Has anyone: tried Genuine Fractals and is it worth the money? is it compatible as an Affinity Photo plug in? Dave

    DAM Please!!

I want Affinity to release its DAM asap, most of the other software are weighed down with duplications of photo editing software, this I don't want. What I would like to have is a DAM dedicated to photography but concentrating on catalogues, tags, key words searches etc. not red eye, cropping and contrast etc. This is what we bought affinity for. Dave
  22. On your tutorial videos the live filter dialog box has three dots in the top left hand corner, the left most one goes red. I believe that this is how you keep the adjustment degree open for further correction. On my purchased installation These three dots are not present, why not? what am I doing wrong? Dave
  23. It's these glasses, combined with the fonts on the forum I have been miss-reading the single word you use builtin as bulletin not built-in, I have just spent some time searching the built-in help to find a further 'bulletin help' which I thought may relate to updates not yet included in the 'built-in' help. Such confusion and its not quite Christmas yet. As to Alfred's comment on the the use of the spelling 'dialog', I was just following the Affinity help spelling convention, which in turn follows the industry standard. In this case using the American spelling. Can RC-R, or anyone else, recommend a lexicon on photo processing, or the Affinity version of the terms. I have seen on one video the instruction to check (tick) the 'alpha' in the dialogue box. However the term 'alpha' is not explained and its this level of pre-supposed knowledge that is making the use of this programme difficult to get to grips with.
  24. This issue is not addressed within the in-built help, which I would have expected to be kept the most in-step with the product's features, indeed this help is very skimpy in my view. Especially as I have only ever used Seriff photo-plus which this product supercedes. As I have only ever a Windows operating system, never Mac, I (and others) would not have recognised Mac traffic lights or know what they are used for. I suspect that anyone who had tried to use, or is familiar with Photoshop may have understood at least Affinitiy's terminology. I think a jargon translator would be useful. This Affinity product has to be one of the most difficult programs I have ever had to grasp. Not at all intuitive. Even AutoCad has been easier than this. However as I am learning the meaning of the words in the dialog boxes and tool bars I feel I am making progress. How much of this is the use of Americanisms instead of English, or just an attempt to differentiate the product from others, I don't know but the Affinity team could consider an 'Affinity lexicon' in their help system. Most items that I have struggled with are not, or not adequately covered by the in-built help. but the videos have been extremely good and those I have started to work my way through since I have decided to ditch PhotoPlus and wholeheartedly adopt Affinity photo. I never expected a further layer of difficulty resultant from residual Mac hangovers. I don't know what the bulletin help is, where do I find that, and if the product is updated should the in-built help not be maintained in parallel? Dave
