  1. Thanks all - Solved! It's option 3) : a change in Affinity nomenclature leading to outdated articles. Judging from the fact people have even made videos on it I'm not the only one having trouble with this having first used Affinity in a V1 trial then bought V2 on Windows. Notable latest Affinity help (acessed directly from the updated software) now says "Settings (or Preferences)" - which is embedding the confusion. RE: Your point below Thomaso, this isn't rhetoric, or pedantry: in software words refer to precise things you need to find in a menu, and we're discussing software that I'm trying to use and spending way to much timeon basics due to wierd UI. As Affinity have (sadly) cloned the legendarily bad Adobe UI, some of us who are not used to pages of tiny menus scattered over multiple locations have a hard enough time finding and remembering where things are as it is. When I see "preferences" in help I have to look at lines upon lines of tiny grey words in seemingly random menus to find that word. If I was supposed to be looking for "settings"... you get my drift. IMHO the wonderful flexibility and creativity of the English language is for poetry not UI. Also, kinda fundamentally: Preferences isn't even under "File" or a settings Icon as it is in every piece of software I have ever used: Global program settings is in the Edit menu. Affinity really should at least have a flag in Help eg "Settings (previously called Preferences)"
  2. Wow - that's so messed up in terms of workflow and minutae logic before meta logic and usability it's worthy of Adobe. Edit: Thank you for the info - looks like that's what I was looking for ( I searched for all the keywords before posting could not find anything). I very much agree re: cursor but also it'd be a lot easier if they set key and a function globally to an intuitively logical default eg Click+Shift scales proportinally, not Shift doesn't.
  3. Anyone know why / if there is any logic to the seemingly random way scaling switches from Shift click on individial objects and multiple objects giving scaling from the lower left corner, to Ctrl clickas soon as the same objects are groupled, now scaling from the centre but shift no longer scales?? Am I missing some weird hidden option or is it just a bug?
  4. Every time I see help re: changing fundamentals the path starts with "go to "Preferences>...." eg: The second way to access the Preference Panel is through the Edit menu. Go to the Edit menu > Preferences." - and yet there doesn't seem to be anything called "Preferences". There's definetly notnig in teh Edit menu. Ctrl comma (said to open prefenences in various YT videos) opens "settings". Is this a different dialogue? Did they change the name from "prefenences" to "Settings" and all the help is now out of date? Some advice also says you can get to Preferences panel by opening a doc but that's also not called "preferences" - and isn't the same menu as Settings. Extremely confusing in software with this many dialogues.
  5. Hi Gary, thanks for your time and responses. 1) Yes - but unless i'm missing something I still can't scale all text easily with just a scroll of the wheel over font size. The issue is that as soon as you have multiple font sizes in a text box you can't select all the text and change font size without setting all of it to one , new, size. In slides you can, and as I use edmixzed font sizes often this is actually a major part of my workflow. 2) Wow - that works, Thanks. Odd it's not constrained the way ctril alt v is even if you pre-select a section of text....would have assumed same code. 3) I actually came here just now to remove that question befroe I waste someone's time as I just worked it out and facepalmed. Not used to having that option! 4) Good stuff. 5) You can't drop shadow (or other layere effect) a section of text. Obvs becasue layer effects work on layers. Would be nice of some basics could apply to sections in a text box the way other fontbased attributes can. Proabably a much bigger ask than it sounds. p>S : cheers. Didn't notice: someone said post ur feedback on our forums so I did. If I post anything in future I'll do so appropes etc
  6. Hi, Google Slides has a few very useful features which Affinity is missing. if you coudl impliment some or all it would be great: 1) The ability to scroll text size changes with different sizes of text selected in the same text box. I frequently use different sizes of Text (and different fonts) in the same paragraph. Being able to vary it all by just scrolling when adjusting design layout is extremly useful and fast vs having to manually select groups of equally sized letters and adjust independently. 2) Impliment a proper format painter that can be used to target selcted sections of text: You can currently do the copy + ctrl alt v to paste some characteristics but that affects the whole text in the target box not just a selected area (eg trying to have bolded first words in a paragraph but not the rest of text: if you copy any characteristics they apply to all text not just selected text). 3) Callouts: currently you can't extend the "arrow / pointer" part of the callout beyond a virtual box, which is very limiting. Normally you can pull teh tip of the pinter past the limits of the text box part of a callout (see Google Slides for ideal implimentation). 4) Guides that span multiple pages / artboards. Snapping currently (sometimes annoyingly) spans multiple artboards. It would be useful if guidelines set up to help alignment also spanned multiple aligned boards. 5) Going just beyond matching Google Sheets features: Layer Based Effects (obvs) currently only apply to whole text objects not to selected sections of text text - so if I want outlined first words, I need to chop out the first words of a paragraph, make space, then insert a new text frame in the space using the effects I want whilst maintaining spacing manually. it'd be niceif they didn't but I get that's major surgery. And obviously if you can sort out a vectoriser I'll happlily pay an upgrade fee.
