I see what you want to say. But even affinity's instruction on placing content indicates that it should be possible. It clearly states double click... My problem is that normal jpg or png files do not show up as 'embedded' in the layers panel and this cannot be edited. And the very strange thing is that it does work for imported psd files with smart objects. And I even seem to recall I was able to embed an image like that only a couple of weeks ago. I followed tutorials on YouTube step by step but my Photo 2 does not give me the same result...

I am having the same problem as the original poster. I think I am doing everything right but I cannot achieve "embedded image" status in Affinity Photo 2 (nor in any of the other versions). When placing an object I choose embed and not linked. My settings, when making a new document, also say "preFer embedded" and still it is not working. Double clicking only will zoom in on the image instead of opening it to be edited. Any helpful insights are very much appreciated! Thanks.
