It was my NVIDIA graphic selected in settings that was crashing mine (microsoft). I had to reboot like twice a day.I'm only doing web work so the resolution is no big deal. Try changing edit>settings>performace> (drop down *Renderer> INTEL R UHD)

I use layered assets in my design process and AD was crashing often and very laggy when adding/deleting or making any changes within assets. My system is well within the memory/processor requirement and no other apps were loaded to interfere with performance. Finally, I decided to lighten the number of assets per sub category and export each sub category separately to back it up. Now I upload only the assets I need for a particular project..keeps things going smoothly with far less lag.

I use assets with multiple layers that I use with multiple art boards, . I was approaching this problem the same way by trying to hide the color tagged layers and as stated, hide on one Art Board hide on them all. One of my art boards I use as a scratch sheet I just select and "harvest" the tagged objects I need and paste then to the other art boards. So select the color tagged objects you want to use and copy and paste on to the art individual art boards rather than hide them.
