Thanks A_B_C and Cdaleyart!
Just like you guys said, group them, then create the shadow and nest it.
Here is outcome and the Affinity file if anyone else wants to see, but ABC's photo is better for a clear example.
Thanks guys. Im doing a 1948 Buick Streamliner by the way, but the bars was the best way to describe the grill.

Im actually trying to recreate a motorbike in affinity designer, check out my instagram FANGPUNK, im close to finishing it, but learning alot along the way, there are lots of shapes and shading them has been a pain if they are not round or square.

Say you want you want to draw a crow bar, how would i shade it on the curved parts using the gradient tool. So far i know how to shade a circle or rectangle using the gradient feature. And designs ive done which needed shading on curves ive had to make a few seperate darker layers and then used a blur tool to make it look like a gradual shadow.
Do any of you know how this can be done an easier way?
Thanks in Advance

I am having problems with layers of different colours and strokes, ill try and explain
say you have red shape with a black stroke around it, then you want to make part of it blue, and keep the black stroke of the original red circle without the blue colour overlapping the stroke, how can this be done?
right now, i am making a coloured shape with a black stroke, then duplicating it and making the top layer just the black stroke, then between these layers i draw another shape making sure it hides behind the stroke on top. Surely there is an easier way to do this. I have tried dividing the shapes in the icons on the top right but then stroke then changes,
I hope you can understand what i was trying to explain, and help me out
How do I cast a shadow over multiple separate shapes?
