  1. Thanks MikeTO! I will look at the manual. I prefer a pdf to a video. I am inadvertently doing that improper drag as I try to be really careful about it. But now I know how to fix it and can proceed accordingly.
  2. Just tried undoing my orphan line settings and that fixed the text flowing. Shouldn't have, so that may possibly be a bug. Is there a specific video on text styles that might help. I've tidied up the styles and have saved the file as a template for future use. So whatever happened that changed the text styles is what caused everything. I've now fixed it all! I did remove a bunch of text styles which made it a bit easier to fix the culprits. Very tedious.
  3. Thanks for the reply. I am pretty sure I haven't used that outer resize button. All of this just happened spontaneously. I have moved pages around. Same with the switch of style. I'd literally done nothing. Here's a screen shot of one of the text flow problems: The text on the bottom page was on the upper page, then Affinity made it tiny, shoved it to the next page (this happens a lot when reflowing things) and now it won't go back into the spot under the D heading. If I copy and paste it it just pushes it ahead. I've checked for breaks, etc. It happened another place as well, but I somehow managed to get it repaired.
  4. It may very well be that I am doing something wrong, but this has been very problematic since the last update. I have my paragraph styles and text styles (and admittedly a lot of them that I should delete) in a file I have been editing across all of the updates (from v1.0). When I went to do edits today (the file was saved, but open). 1. My key paragraph style for this document (body text) was oddly resizing some of the font to 21.88887 from 14. 2. I went in to look at the settings for the style, and it had switched from the body text to normal (not one I use). 3. I fixed it, and the text that was changed. 4. Where it has been fixed the text flow is no longer working properly. This is incredibly time consuming when this happens. I would appreciate knowing 1) what I am doing wrong and if there is a link to a specific tutorial), 2) if this is a bug if there is an easy work around. I have gone into my file and deleted all the superfluous text styles and am fixing the problems that arise. I'll upload a new version soon. I am losing my mind doing my own edits and these style edits. Thanks. Jill Lyon & Lyon Traboules 2023.afpub
  5. Thanks for the wheel on mouse tip. That is much easier than zooming. If it is any help, I am not using Myriad Pro, I use Kabel.
  6. I appreciate all the back and forth on this. I have the same issue and spend so much time resizing text it is frustrating. I do use IDML originated files, but have the problem regardless.
  7. Jumping in because I have been losing my mind over this! Triggered by the horizontal scroll! I often do facing page layout so lots of horizontal scrolling. Happens in both facing and non-facing pages. Seriously I have lost a couple of hours trying to figure this out and am so grateful to have a work around, but this is major bad for functionality.
  8. Thanks. But the defaults are originally 16/18 and 14/13.5. That is exactly the problem. The rotated text was rotated and then unrotated itself. I was using Masters.
  9. I think this may have been addressed, but my issue is a little different so I want to check. I often need to repaginate. Sometimes tables are involved, so I'm moving text and tables. The font size in the text changes. Same when I add new pages and have existing text that I am unloading. The text is either 2x or one-half my set font size. I am using text styles that I have set both font size and spacing, and often bolding, etc. I spend so much time reformatting it is frustrating. I have also had instances where all the text styles have been changed when I bring text in from another document. I am attaching the document I was using today. I am on a different computer than usual, and I think I fixed everything. I did find some hidden text which I put onto page 23 and that shows the problem. I don't use the even number pages for text. I place graphics over there. The layout is then facing pages, but that doesn't work on my laptop (too small), so I often switch back and forth between facing pages and single pages. No idea what happened to the text (which should be sideways) on the first page when I reapplied the master page. Beacon Hill Swatch.afpub
  10. Thanks. I had the afdesign file, I had just inadvertently placed the ai file. It was the afpub file which I gave you that I couldn't save (or couldn't save the most current version). I think I understand what I did, my question was, is there anything I can do short of reverting to an earlier version to fix it. I removed the ai file, and replaced it, but then couldn't save so the version I gave you was pre-removal. I think we had a misunderstanding.
  11. Okay, different file. No problems, and I just went to save and got that Failed message. I have looked at the Resource Manager and all my placed files look great. By going back through each page and clicking on each placed file I found an ai file, which I deleted and replaced with an afdesign file. Still will not save. I have no idea where to look to see what the trouble might be. I was able to save it as a pdf, so at least I have that. Here is a screenshot, the afpub file (whether or not it contains the ai file I can't say; it was on page 11), the pdf. The afpub won't open on my computer, but an earlier version will, and I was able to save it after getting rid of the ai file. I can update it (it was mostly placed files I need to update) to match the pdf. At this point I am guessing I just have a question as to whether I could have done anything any differently? 12. I appreciate the help @hangman, but I just got it again. I went in and deleted the placed files I had just changed, and replaced them, and then it saved! I am learning how to troubleshoot, which is awesome. I came here, then it occurred to me to replace the files, and success!
  13. Oh @Hangman thanks! Somehow I never thought to look at the layers. It is now gone. Touch wood that everything continues to behave.
  14. I did get a crash when I first opened it, but I immediately reopened and got rid of the TIFF file (not sure if it is a problem or when it became a TIFF), I replaced the pdf. Then I went through and made all the linked files embedded, checked to make sure that they were all placed files. My logo file has been replaced and given a new title. It still doesn't show that it is placed. Not sure if this is a problem. I placed in on one of the master pages, sized it to fit, then copied it to other master pages. Then looking in Resource Manager: That Brique GSR 7 file with a negative value persists, although it doesn't actually exist. I cannot figure out how to get rid of it. If I try to replace it, then the new file shows the same negative value. The pdf still seems a little problematic. I cannot resize it without shrinking it. Would it be better if I made it into an afdesign or afpphoto file? I've made it a afdesign file. That's my report from the trenches. I am able to save the file, which is what matters. I have renamed it and I'm going to get rid of those old files that were causing problems. I really appreciate the help. Learning curves are an interesting journey. 15. @Hangman and @Dan C Thank you so much. I am afraid that the old version which is the only one I was able to recover yesterday did have some pre-existing issues. I have more recent versions after I learned about embedding and not using ai files directly. It is possible that some of the issues are in the afdesign files that were converted from ai. I tend to do the minimum possible, rather than reworking the entire file. Somehow at 68 yo I should know that it will bite me some other way . . . yet I persist. I am waiting for my daily backup to finish, then I'm going into time machine to see if I can resurrect a newer version that has at least fewer problematic files, and my more recent edits.
  16. @Dan C I do not remember. I was in the document editing and it failed to save. I have gone through every version I had and had the same issue. As soon as I get to my desk I’ll check the files and pull a copy back from Time Machine to see if that works.
  17. Here it is. I didn’t think there was an ai file in there. https://www.dropbox.com/s/ptwo0dj6gryfpcu/JWK edit-Logo-sized.jpg.ai?dl=0
  18. Sorry. I was away from my office and so trying to do it on my phone. I'm not terribly creative about my file names: Try this. Brique GSR 7.afdesign
  19. I had just edited that file. As I said, it is an old version and apparently it didn’t save after I embedded the files. https://www.dropbox.com/s/r49wkb3e5u0exn9/Brique begin GSR 7.afdesign?dl=0
  20. On firefox. It uploaded. All my other files show 0 bytes of information. I was updating some graphics, correcting some text. They are afdesign files. All are embedded. The pdf was brought in however is recommended, but it was kind of wonky and wouldn't edit. I deleted it after reading this thread. This document, which also won't save (or says it won't) had linked files because it was old Yesterday I was doing the same to my other two documents that failed to save.
