  1. Satta's work around worked for me. I'm still patiently waiting for Serif to sit up and take notice though!
  2. Thank you Satta. I've just found this topic. I've been wrestling with this issue for over a year. Your work around solution is great. I'm surprised it's still even an issue in Affinity Publisher 2.
  3. I'd also like to know if this has progressed as we are now in mid 2023.
  4. Thank you. I've sorted it. I got Photo 2 to select the ON1 Plugins directory, then restarted Photo 2 and it appeared.
  5. Hi, I've tried to add my ON1 plugin to Affinity 2 by copying the plugin file from directory 1.0 to directory 2.0, ticking unknown plugins box, and restarting Affinity 2. But no luck. I've also tried reinstalling the ON1 plugin but it only asks to be added to Affinity 1 and not Affinity 2. Any ideas?
  6. Thank you for all your help. I've tried both the emoji route and jpg route. They both work well. In my instance where I only need two variations, one black and one grey, the better option is to use the black emoji in both instances and reduce opacity for the grey instance. Cheers DZ
  7. Thank you Old Bruce. Does the "\1" open up the ability to dynamically create paragraph styles in a text box in the merge master file or is this a process I would have to do manually after creating each individual merged calendar?
  8. I'm not sure. Excel I think I can handle, but I'm struggling with Affinity Publisher DML settings. Playing with emoji fonts and jpgs has so far led me nowhere except for the moon phases font. My Excel sheet has 372 records, which should exactly fill 12 pages with 31 DML fields. I can preview any record correctly in the Data Merge Manager but on merging get a weird fill. The grey fill and line separators are correctly triggered by the merge but I haven't yet worked out how to depict them in Publisher hence the struggle and discussions on emoji fonts and jpegs. Can you suggest how I can use find and replace interactively with my triggers to get a light grey filled text box and not have an underline on blank records at the end of short months? Cheers DZ
  9. I've been playing with DML and have successfully created a merge master which when I scroll through the fields for preview everything works well. Lines and shading is yet to be resolved, I've had a few goes but couldn't merge these even though they seemed to work when the correct record was selected. However... when I perform the merge, I get strange results. See attached file. It only produces some of the pages and starts around May and the days are out of sync with page layout. The merge master (below) has made the main merge feint thus difficult to see. I can't find a way of clearing this. It was fine but changed for some reason. I'm learning lots, but it's a bit semi-educated trial and error. Cheers DZ slim calendar mess.pdf
  10. Thank you again for your help and patience, I'm making progress Ok, I think I've managed to create the excel part of the data merge to use the DML control. I've tested it with different languages and years and also full and abbreviated day names. Tomorrow I shall work on Slim Calendar 2 using the DML command. Let's see what happens. I've attached a screenshot of the data page. All date related data is from an Excel date formula and format. I used EDATE() to give me a reference to generate the month names from a date (selected cell). Cheers DZ screenshot excel slim calendar2 data file.pdf
  11. I found a list of Finnish bank holidays on the Internet. Sorted out the dates as some of them change annually, made a new array in my languages sheet added Finland to my Language selection array. So the answer is yes to both. I used Google translate and online listings in Finnish to double check translations so they should be correct. I also put in DST start and finish dates and times.
  12. I may not have got all the Finnish or the dates perfectly correct, but here are two months just to demonstrate. All field contents are merged from the excel file and I selected Finland from my dropdown list in Excel then updated the Merge Manager slim finnish calendar jan and april.pdf
  13. I'll see if I can get my head around Data Merge Layout (DML). It seems to be much faster and simpler than the table method I am currently using. So in simple terms, everything you put in the first row of the DML will be filled in the rest until end of page and a new page started automatically. My current Excel Slim calendar layout has a block of columns for each month. I guess that I should change it to 12 x 31 rows for the days of each month plus another 12 x 1 for the month header row "January and Year". I change languages in Excel using a similar vlookup() to the one for the year where one of the columns is a number starting at 1 increasing by 1 for each each language, a column for country which internally deals with day and month names directly from the excel date number. I set out bank holidays for each chosen country on a grid based on 5 columns then use offset() to calculate which 5 column set to use for that language. This picks up the correct bank holidays for that particular country and puts them in the correct position in the calendar. I guess you are Finnish, so I will create one in Finnish and show you what I mean using my original slim calendar layout (because I know that works haha). Cheers DZ
  14. In my Excel file I created my complete calendar to get a visual layout for each month as a 12 page calendar. I then created a sheet which looked up the records for each month with field names as columns and rows as months and the merge creates a page for each month from each row. This means that all my blank fields are passed to Affinity Publisher as blank. I can see a way to put moon phases in by adding them after DayAbbr. I guess if want to put them above DayAbbr I would have to copy the Calendar Data frame and position the Moon phase field where I want it it this new layer. I will have a play. Are the days in individual Text Frames, not a 31 row table? I still haven't got my head around the grey fill using the button colour, but I think I've got enough to be going on with. Thank you again Cheers DZ
  15. I forgot to add that I use Custom formats for DayNumber, DayAbbr, MonthName, and Year; "dd", "ddd", "mmmm", and "yyyy" respectively. Also I've modified the last row, My If() statement was wrong and now is correct. calendarsimple DZ Ver1.2.xlsx
  16. I've been looking at your calendarsimple.xlsx and have changed a few of your field formulas to show you how I make the year and bank holidays interactive. If you just change the Cal_Year value to a different year the calendar will update. It even works for the extra Platinum Jubilee bank holiday in 2022. I'll now explore the cell and character colour merges Cheers DZ calendarsimple DZ Ver1.xlsx
  17. Thank you very much... I will look at this later in the day and over the weekend. In Excel, to end each month on the correct day, I use this test in Cell A31 =IF(A30="","",IF(MONTH(A30+1)=MONTH(A$3),A30+1,"")) where the first of the month is in A3 and 28th of month in A30. A3 contains a formula for first day of selected year =DATE(Cal_Year,1,1). Moon phases come from a NASA table listing moon phases with UTC date and time stamps up to end of 2030. I correct these for country local and DST times where applicable. I use a moon phases font to display the phase symbols. Cheers DZ
  18. I keep returning to my manual method for each post merge calendar, select all cells on each page that need the grey fill and use: Table > Stroke and Fill > Greys > 25%. I'll keep on working on making it interactive from Excel and maybe have it cracked for my 2024 calendars. I still have lots to learn in both MS Excel and Affinity Publisher.
