Affinity on IPad keeps crashing (never happened before)

In my case, it’s the app crashing, not the iPad. -
Affinity on IPad keeps crashing (never happened before)
Mcgoo4 replied to hkartte's topic in iPad Questions
Mine has been crashing too and I have over 200GB left on myiPad. It’s crashed with multiple files, not just one and there’s no rhyme of reason when it crashes. -
I’ve had Affinity Designer (& Photo) for several years, but now I need to use it. Problem is, I need to create just simple, basic SVG cut files that are simple shapes used to build scale dollhouse miniatures. As an example, A cut file for a square picture frames, which one that’s say 2” x 3” opening, 1/4” wide, another that is oval, etc., and then use the negative space in each to put even smaller frames, in order to maximize the usability of a piece of wood and reduce waste. So easy, huh? Draw a square in a square. Nope, I need one little piece of one side of the frame to remain connected to the “motherboard” in order for it to not fall out when I pull the wood out of the cutter. I don’t know how to do that. (BTW, I have a Glowforge Plus, therefore the need for SVG cut files) Same goes for some really tiny doilies I want to laser cut, that need to remain “tabbed” or connected to the “motherboard” as I’m cutting so the fan doesn’t blow them everywhere. I’ve taken a few pictures that illustrate this. I did read through some of the forums, but to be honest, the technicality is way beyond what I need or understand. I’d love to find someone that can create these files for me, but since I’m wanting to create dollhouse miniature items (kits, accessories) to sell to help offset my need to retire much, much earlier than most people (severe spine issues & I’m still young) and my reduced income, I need to at least learn the few (I feel) simple steps to do this. The 2 images are considered quarter scale (1:48 or .25”= 1”) and I work in all 3 “dollhouse” scales, 1:12 (1” = 1’) & 1:24 (.5” = 1’) being the others. Myself and others create these for teenagers and adults, not kids, so we am for realism, just in miniature. I hope I’m not duplicating another post and that I’ve explained things sufficiently. If not, my apologies. Just so you know, I’m not computer illiterate, I’ve just never had to learn design software. I can balance accounts with ease and manage a maintenance department, heck, even draw stuff in Cricut Designer, but this, this is beyond me. Thank you.

I have an SVG file I purchased for making full sized cutting boards. However, since I want to cut them in 1:48 scale, I need to fill in the "hole" or "slot" of the cutting board (where you would normally hold it to carry) to make it a solid piece. Somehow, I got one actually done and now I don't know how I did it! I was messing around with the Fill tool, but that's all I can figure out. Can someone help? This is probably a 5 second solve. Thank you, Marilyn 0024.svg.svg

I have a similar question. I was given some MS Publisher templates to use for creation of prints I need to use for miniatures (I work in scale miniatures). In MS Pub, I just have to open the file (which contains multiple frames), right click on the frame I want, chose Format Auto Shape, Fill Effect, Picture or Texture Fill, File, and then chose the image I want to place in that frame. Since I mainly use a Mac, I need to get these 6 or so Pub file templates into Affinity Pub, so I can make use of them. I don't want to recreate anything if I don't have to, especially since I am Publisher illiterate (both companies' products) & what I have has been formatted and laid out correctly for my needs. Thanks!

Mask vs Clipping

FACE PALM.......yep, it's working, I was not clicking on it correctly. THANK YOU so much! Now, if I want to save just the masked section (what is inside the circle) what do I do? -

No biggie. I know it's hard trying to type and tell me what to do, that's why I'm now doing as you instruct and sending you the newly saved file so you can see what's happening. My computer at work (where I am now) doesn't have a microphone either. I KNOW it's some small that I'm either doing or not doing, but for the life of me can't figure it out. If you were standing right here, you could probably show me in 5 seconds and I'd go "DUH". -

Background image dragged to the circle & saved. Move the circle around, and you will see what my problem now is. It's not showing me different parts of the image, it's moving a clipped image and I didn't clip. (banging head against the wall now as I'm sure you are). Alfred, just tried what you suggested, the two layers are linked, can't unlink them to turn on the fill for the ellipse, so I can't independently just select the ellipse. I swear, I did nothing to them but drag and drop, increase the stroke, and zero the fill. -

Ron P. Another issue: In the Problem File Ellipse Stroke Set Zero Fill Dragged Vertically to Image of Background, I can no longer drag the ellipse out from under the Background. Alfred: I tried it the way you explained it and it's still not working. I attached two other files in the reply right about yours. -
Mask vs Clipping

I set a stroke, told it no fill, and now I see all the background image, not the piece that's masked. If I drag it to where there's a vertical line by the image thumbnail, the only this it shows is the stroke (a thin like in a circle with the image in it. I'm normally not this dense, so I must be overlooking something (I'm figuring out Designer without much of an issue). I'm attaching the files. What am I missing or not doing? As you can probably tell, I'm trying to get just a piece of the original image, but I want to be able to choose where in that piece I select. I can just use Clipping, but then it's hit or miss. I REALLY REALLY appreciate you trying to help me. I do have the book ordered and am waiting for it to arrive here in the US. Mask vs Clipping

How do I get it to actually show me the mask? All I can get is a white circle and the background showing around it. I need the background to be in the mask with white around it. I'm so confused since I'm doing what the video says. Thanks -

I'd tried again and the file is attached. I just started using the software so I may have inadvertently done something wrong. Problem File.afphoto -
Mask vs Clipping
Mcgoo4 replied to Mcgoo4's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
Yes, that is the tutorial. I'll try it one more time & if that doesn't work, I'll attach the file I'm working with. Thank you. -
I was following the video instructions on using a Mask instead of Clipping. I had my original image and applied the ellipse that I wanted to use first as Clipping. When I tried to step back by dragging the ellipse out of the background to the top, it wouldn't let me. Then, I closed the file and reopened my original background. I then tried Masking, so that I could move my ellipse around and choose the section of the background I wanted selected, but it didn't give me my masked image in the middle of my background (dragged ellipse to the text of the layer like it said), it just stayed white. I'm following the video to the letter and it's just not working. Yes, I VERY new to this, but I'm stumped since I'm doing exactly what the video is saying to do. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
