  1. Thanks everyone for replying Yes exactly These are the kind of things I am trying to figure out Obviously there are a ton of minor things that will be different, and it wouldn't be realistic or even possible to try and understand all of it. However, I feel that it would be good to know things like - They update differently (This had already been mentioned above by @iconoclast) - If certain App data are stored differently on the Mac between the Affinity store version and the Mac App Store version(like where the app gets saved to, where imported brushes save to, app settings files save location, etc. ~Library, or somewhere different?) - Certain app features working differently. This in my opinion would be the most key thing to know, since you may potentially be missing out on features(e.g. does the sandboxing prevent certain features from working even if you enable full access?) @Lemon Tree thanks for your comment. i didn’t know that limit existed in the V1 app(I didn’t even know you could use affinity photo to run that amount of images either. I know this is a different category of questions from the above, but you said an “action feature”. How do you access multiple images at once through affinity photo?
  2. @MikeTO thanks for the reply. yes I see the official FAQ now. Didn’t know how to access this one. This definitely helped with some of my questions 1, so it clearly talks about the affinity store version of the app, so that answers my 1st question. 2, From reading this it looks like it doesn’t matter where you buy the license as long as you register it to you account. So it looks like I can buy the license anywhere and use the license on both the app installed from the affinity store, or the Mac App Store? 3, what I still seem to be missing is the last question. Even if I have a license that works for either the Affinity store version or the Mac App Store version of the app(assuming that is true), which one is better? Is there a difference in any of the capabilities or features? The App Store version would let me manage downloads and updates easier, and I assume that the file management may be a little different? Depending on how each app communicates with each other for brush files etc(it said that one of the new features was the all the apps are able to access brushes and some other tools in the other apps) so maybe the storage used is a little different? Or not? I am trying to understand, if I am going to get the universal license (all 3 apps) are there differences, limitations, benefits to the app it self, depending on where I install the apps from? Mac App Store or the DMG from the Affinity store.
  3. I have a question. For V1 there was a version of the app that could be downloaded/installed from the affinity website, and there was also a Mac App Store version(and windows ver. Etc.) I was told that the features were all the same and that there were no differences between the 2 versions. For V2 On the affinity website, I see references to the licenses being purchasable from the affinity store(affinity’s website?) but I cannot find an download link on the website. So here are my questions… 1, is there an Affinity store(affinity website) version of the desktop apps for V2? the “how to update page” seems to indicate that there is a downloadable version from the website, but wasn’t sure 2, the “how to update page” says that the updates are different depending on where you purchased the software. I am assuming that whether it was purchased on the App Store or the Affinity store, I will be able to switch between one from the other if I buy the universal license right? 3, this is the main question. Are there, or will there be any limitations by getting one or the other? I generally prefer to install from the App Store, since it makes managing apps and updates easier, among various other things, but wanted to make sure there weren’t going to be downsides to this. I couldn’t find a forum that talks about this, so asking it here many thanks.
  4. Hi Dan, Really appreciate you checking this with the team. I would like to try this carefully when I have more time than just modifying documents on my hands, but I will be sure to try this out. Thank you very much! This sounds like it may be a relatively difficult setting to reverse though. Although I may not have an immediate need, I am curious. Is it not possible to reverse once done? Thanks.
  5. Sorry I’m not sure I fully understand, but are you saying that when you try to save, the edits are not reflected for your photos?
  6. Hi R C-R, Apologies for my delayed response. This is reference had a lot of content, and it took me some time to get through it(not fully through it yet). Although I unfortunately don’t understand all the technical points, this was helpful. Particularly knowing that it was more of what the system does, rather than what the affinity app is doing. So thank you very much for sharing. I have trying something out, and it seems that the contents of the intermediate folder gets overwritten once you edit another photo through the extension. *I may be wrong but it looks like that is what is happening. Thank you for the help.
  7. Hi. Thank you very much for the reply. I do not see the affinity app in systemPreference> security > privacy I don’t see it under “Full disk access” or “files and folders”. This is true for both apps I have, and apps I haven’t authorized(accidentally) global access after the first pop-up. I am trying to fix my initial mistake, so if you know of a solution, that would be very much appreciated. Thank you
  8. Hi I have this issue, even with the latest 1.9ver of the affinity app. It's a shame because I actually really like the app. I still like the app,,, but this is an inconvenience for me. Really hoping this gets fixed in the near future. Please. No app that I have ever used, free or otherwise, has had this issue... (Also I know this is another topic, but having the option for vertical Japanese text input will also be fantastic) The work around shown above, causes issues(more an inconvenience, sure...) for another particular app that I have. So I do not want to remove the ABC input, if possible. (Also, sometimes the language toggle keys act as a space button(but not always)) <Other workarounds> For anyone else trying to find a workaround WITHOUT removing the English ABC keyboard, here are 2 ways I have found. (Using Mac with the Mac App Store version of affinity publisher) 1, In the keyboard settings under system preferences, check a box at the bottom that lets you toggle input from ABC with the caps lock key. You can still toggle caps lock by holding the key. 2, It’s likely set by default, but a shortcut “cmd + space” let’s you toggle the input language. Neither of these workarounds are great... but they work in affinity publisher(have not tested on other affinity apps). They cannot compete with the convenience of having a dedicated button for each Japanese, and English(or other languages if that is what you have), not to mention the inconvenience this causes, because you're used to using the actual toggle buttons for every other app, but these options kinda work, if the you don’t like the original workaround above.
  9. Hi Dan, I would like to add a comment although I know this is an older post. I understand your recommendation, but how exactly do you change this setting if you have chosen not to authorize global in the beginning. OR if you want to change global access to something more restrictive, is there a way to do that? thank you
  10. Thank you but this doesn’t seem to be it... I didn’t authorize global, but in this menu it shows full access. So I am assuming it’s a setting somewhere else?
  11. Thanks for the comment. For all the affinity files, I have them downloaded onto my Mac(in the iCloud drive that is auto generated by the affinity apps) so I had assumed that I would not have those issues you mentioned... but maybe not? I will keep your recommendation in mind, and consider using other folders. I am still curious about my original question though… in case I decide to use the cloud for whatever reason, and also because the same directory path also shows up for embedded files. Is the "6LVTQB9699~com~seriflabs~affinitydesigner" just the apps way of showing the iCloud’s affinity designer folder path? Or is it something else? P.S. I am using the latest 1.9 version If anyone has an answer to this, it would be very much appreciated.
  12. When editing a photo from the Mac photo app(edit -> (...) -> edit with affinity photo), I found that the layers and editing details are not stored/visible in the photos app. However I found that they seem to be automatically stored in a hidden folder. Library/Group Containers/(some cryptic folder name)/intermediates I try to be careful about keeping track of the storage I use on my laptop. My question is, do these files continue building up here? Or are they temporary/auto-deleted under certain conditions? Also is there a better way to keep track of the files that build up in the hidden folders? Or do I have to put the photo in a folder every time, and then edit from there? Many people may not be concerned about this, but I would like to keep track of where my files are getting stored. Also, I'm on the Mac app store version of the app. Many thanks in advance.
  13. @emmrecs01 Thanks. Affinity publisher app. The pop-up came up after I tried using an .afdesigner file in the publisher app.
  14. Files imported(placed, or drag&dropped) via iCloud have a cryptic looking path shown in the resource manager. e.g. "6LVTQB9699~com~seriflabs~affinitydesigner" This may sound like a silly question, but I am genuinely curious. Is this just the app's way of recognizing the iCloud path? Or is this actually referring to a directory separate from the actual files I see in iCloud?(in other words, is it creating a copy somewhere that I don't know?) I have also found that for some files(afphoto files), the path starts with "iCloud" Using Mac App Store version Thank you!
  15. In the 1st or 2nd time of opening/using affinity publisher, I got a pop up asking to "authorize global" (access of files) or to "authorize a folder". My question is how do you change this setting after the 1st pop-up? I've been looking online, and cannot, find an answer to how to change the authorization to global(expanding authorization), or to change from global(limiting authorization) Can someone help? I do not see anything in the system preferences -> privacy -> "full disk access" section, so I think the setting is in the app somewhere. (I have found threads talking about global authorization for plug-ins, but I'm not sure this is the same thing) I am using the Mac App Store version in case that affects the answer. Many thanks
