  1. Hi Dan-Yes, that's much better and looks like what I was used to in V1. Thank you for your help.
  2. Here's a screen recording. Is my Refine radius too large? Screen Recording 2023-03-13 at 10.28.27 AM.mov
  3. Refine Selection in Affinity V1 seemed straight forward and easy to use. In V2 when I use the Refine Selection tool, it does not find the edges of the selection. The selection actually seems to shrink from the edges into the middle of the selected object. What have I missed? Thanks for any help.
  4. Thank you all for the helpful tips and suggestions. I've been working through them and along the way I have learned more about how to use APhoto. I'm now able to get a much better result from this old transparency. An elderly friend wanted to have a print of her late sister and I know she'll be pleased with the result. I appreciate that you took the time and interest to help me out.
  5. Thanks, Bruce, Carl, and David Yes, I tried the Color Correction (Restoration) on both the Epson and Silverfast software. I did try to paint over the woman's face but couldn't come up with a reasonable looking skin tone. Here's a look at the file.
  6. I have a scanned image from a an old film(pre-1950's Ansco positive) and need to improve the skin tone. Usually changing white balance is enough but in this case(old film) it has no effect. Maybe the film was too limited in tonal range. Looking for suggestions about what I might try. Epson V600, Silverfast 8.8, MBP. Thanks
  7. Hi stokerg I also sent along a file using the link. NX2 shows the focus point on the wing of the bird(black tern)Thanks Phil
  8. Hi and thanks for responding. I'm using a Nikon D7100. Phil
  9. I want to use the Show AF Regions option under Develop Persona (Affinity Photo 7.0)but I find it is grayed out. How does one activate it? Thanks for your help Phil
  10. Hi-just downloaded the version 1.7 but I got a screen asking for a product key. (downloaded using the Affinity Store link above) Not sure I have that from my initial purchase. I must have missed something. Thanks for your help.
  11. Thanks v_kyr for the suggestion. Took a look at the link but I actually have moved away from iPhoto and now Photos and just have images in folders on my Mac. Have been able to access them easily using other 3rd party software for Nikon and others. Also-I don't use iCloud as I have too many images. Maybe those aren't the best decisions but it seems easier to me. to RC-R. Thanks, I'm guessing Affinity Photo 1.7 is not out yet?
  12. Hello, I'm trying to use Media Browser-I can't open any folders to look through images. I thought I could do that weeks ago but now unable.. Any suggestions appreciated. Phil
  13. Thanks to all 3 of you for your responses-both in how to use the high/low frequencies for image processing and the theory behind it. DM1-Excellent tutorial on how to apply the concept; to Ian and John-the links to signal processing and Fourier are what I want to understand. That gives me plenty to study about spatial frequency-it's been a long time since I encountered Fourier analysis in college.
  14. I would appreciate a definition frequency as it applies to Affinity Photo. I understand the idea of frequency as in the EM spectrum but not sure what it means when applied to tones in an image. Thanks
  15. Look under Select>Tonal Range Here you can choose from Highlights, Midtones, or Shadows to add adjustments
  16. Trying to understand which resampling method would be best to use on landscape or wildlife images. From the Help section, it looks like Lanczos 3(non separable) would give the best results. The 4 choices in the Export menu(Linear, Bicubic, etc.) are only names to me, so any clarification about them would be helpful. (Just an amateur enjoying the hobby) Thanks, Phil
  17. Hi, Do you plan to advertise in print media soon or after the Windows versions is released? Thanks Phil
  18. Thanks for creating this excellent software with so many features and tutorial support. Just "scratching the surface"-much to learn. Allows me to move from Nikon NX2 and never need to consider Adobe products. Do you plan to advertise in print media soon or after the Windows versions is released?
  19. Kodiak. That's a beautiful shot of a swan-thank you for sharing that. Getting the image right in the camera is the ideal way to go, and I try to minimize sharpening my images in post. Yes, switched to back button focus 2 years ago-like it much better. I find I'm kind of addicted to shooting birds-I enjoy the challenge. I appreciate your suggestions.
  20. Kodiak, Thank you for the suggestions. I'm used to applying a sharpening step with NX2 so Affinity must be different. My images do look sharp even before I try a sharpening step with Photo. I understand everything that you mentioned except BBF. Not sure what that is.
  21. I enjoy bird photography, both still and in-flight and have been using Nikon NX2 for processing. I want to move to Affinity Photo and I'm trying to become more skilled with it. Wondering what others use as settings to do final sharpening? Just revisited the Sharpening and Frequency Separation videos to refresh my memory about options. I use a Nikon D7100, and mainly an 80-200 f/2.8 and a 300mm f/4 lenses. I appreciate any suggestions or examples. Phil
