  1. Wow Walt, that was super fast. And you are correct, just tabbing has restored that line. Wonderful. I'm most grateful. Michael
  2. Sorry but I can't find a proper descriptor for this niggling issue. In AP V1. a line of guidance information about any tool currently in use is displayed across the very bottom of the screen (see screenshot below for the brush tool). However this information line is absent in my V2 setup despite appearing in Serif's V2 videos. I've tried numerous 'views' etc to display that line but all to no avail. I'd be very grateful for information on how to display the line in Photo V2. I'm using Windows 10 by the way.
  3. Thanks loukash. I was just in the process of replying when I tried once again to replicate the problem. Then it occurred to me - is the keyboard's number lock key illuminated (i.e. on)? Answer, NO! Therefore numerical inputs were not being registered. Stupid of me not to have thought of that. It must have happened accidentally. All works now, so problem solved.
  4. I have been using Affinity Photo for some time and regard myself as reasonably competent. However, I found today I could not do what I have regularly done in the past- and that is resize an image in File Export for conversion to say a lower pixel JPEG for export. If I have a multilayered afphoto image, I flatten it before going to File>Export>JPEG. Then, with the dimensions locked to preserve format, I highlight one of the two pixel values and change it to the chosen new value. Today I cannot do that because every time I try to change the output pixel dimension it ignores the input and values remain the same. If I delete the pixel value, the original number appears as soon as I enter any digit. All this happens with AF V1 and V2 and even when inputting a simple JPEG for resizing. I must have a mental blockage. What on earth am I suddenly doing wrong?
  5. I’m with you on this, Ian. I came from Corel PaintShop Pro a year ago after 15+ years using that program. I’m now pretty proficient in Affinity Photo but its inability to handle 2 (or more) images onscreen simultaneously is a continual source of extreme annoyance. If PSP has been doing it for that many years it cannot be difficult to build it into AP. It offers at least 2 huge benefits: View 2 or more tiled images simultaneously for comparison purposes at any degree of magnification. Even more significantly, it enables cloning to be performed soooooo easily from one image directly into another. Just compare that with James Ritson’s pantomime method displayed at the beginning of this thread. Otherwise I must unreservedly pay testimony to the brilliance of Affinity Photo and to those who developed it.
  6. Thanks Dan Sorry, hadn't spotted this message until now. I solved the issue. It was a simple, stupid error on my part. The brush had been left set to 'darken' so no wonder it wouldn't act on a black mask. Regards Michael
  7. I've just downloaded the new AP 1.9.0.932 and immediately struck a problem. I'm halfway through editing 150 images for a presentation. With the new version of AP I find I cannot paint white onto a black mask though I can paint black onto a white mask. I can take an earlier edited image with a semi-white black mask but the new white brush does not add white, whereas the new black brush removes the whites. Can anyone solve this? Otherwise can I reload the old version and, if so, how do I do that? Thanks Michael
  8. Thanks again Samoreen. I have tried the Leserprobe and am very impressed by the boo's scope. Although I can read and understand the text, it no longer comes easily to me - it no longer flows naturally. It's 50 years since I lived and worked there and I've had relatively little contact with the language since then. The parts of the book I read are already familiar to me though no doubt there will be sections that would be new. I've decided it's not worth my while to buy it, having already spent 80 Euros on English-language books that proved rather disappointing. Had I known then what I know now, I would probably have bought the German e-book, although I have to say my comprehension might have been somewhat lower then, when I was unfamiliar with AP, compared to now when I have a fair level of proficiency. Many thanks for your generous help.
  9. Thanks for the reply, Samoreen. I do speak German but that was so long ago that digital computing didn't exist then. So my German vocabulary of computing/computers is absolutely zero! However, I have been very diligent in acquiring knowledge about AP from videos. I have even compiled a file covering numerous editing topics in detail, with references back to the videos if more help is needed. I am now getting by quite well. However, there must be numerous digital tricks and manipulations that I am unaware of. I just keep a close eye on what Olivio Sarikas is doing😀.
  10. I also have encountered this problem. It could be linked to the fact that DxO ViewPoint files expressly refer to a 'Photoshop plugin' and Affinity does not respond suitably. Still, AP is to be commended for enabling an entire raft of Topaz plugins, ranging from the earlier individual actions to the later Studio and Studio2 programs. That is extremely useful, at least to me. Altogether I am extremely impressed by Affinity Photo. I only have 2 regrets: one is that I did not switch to it years ago, the other is that there are no comprehensive detailed guide books like those published by various authors for Lightroom or Photoshop.
  11. Thanks everyone for the replies. I'll try the Export solution and hope that it won't be required.
  12. I'm fairly new to Affinity Photo and have now encountered my first update (to 1.8.4). If I update, will my Library contents be preserved? Or should I copy a specific file and paste it into the new version? If the latter, which file is it - I'm using Windows 10? Many thanks.
